What to Expect in Our Lady of Mang Den?
Located in a pine hill near the center of Mang Den town, Our Lady of Mang Den is a holy pilgrimage site for Catholics in Vietnam. Its design was inspired by the Our Lady of Fatima and was a gift from Vietnamese priest Toma Le Thanh Anh to the diocese of Kon Tum in 1971. He brought this statue to the town by the airplane.
In 1974, Our Lady of Mang Den was heavily damaged by the war, and then abandoned in the forest. After the Vietnam War, particularly in 1980s, local Catholics restored it.
Today, this nearly-1-meters tall Our Lady of Mang Den becomes a popular attraction for Catholic churches across the country. From the Our Lady Hill (Vietnamese: Doi Duc Me), the views to nearby mountains are breath-taking, especially during the sunrise or sunset. There are lots of visitors coming here in the early morning to see the clouds and take photos.
