Why are Cable Cars Built at Ba Na Hills?
In the first half of 20th century, Ba Na Hills wass the hill station and mountain resort of French people. To come here, the colonists constructed a road for cars. However, near the peak, they used a carriage to their villas or hotels. After 1945, Ba Na Hills was completely abandoned.
In the 1990s, Da Nang city leaders wanted to rebuild Ba Na Hills resort, with a hope that it could become a busy tourist attraction and boost the local economy. However, the 16-kilometers-long road to this place (at an elevation of 1,400m) was narrow, winding, and usually foggy/cloudy. It’s too dangerous and slow for visitors. To go to Ba Na Hills, it took them 3 hours by car, and to go down the mountain, the same. For that reason, the city thought about a solution in which visitors can have easy transfers.
In 2009, the first cable car at Ba Na Hills was opened. By this new kind of transport, it’s needed 15 mins. The ride was easy, smooth, safe, cheap, and allowed visitors to see beautiful sceneries. It also helped to reduce air pollution, and save forests (because don’t have to widen the road).

Experience on Ba Na Hills Cable Cars
Riding the cable car at Ba Na Hills is a kool and fantastic experience, one of must-do activities in Da Nang, Vietnam. Visitors have a chance to know about one of the greatest cable car networks on the planet which shows amazing engineering and technology.
From the plain, cable cars will bring passengers up to the top of Da Nang – Nui Chua Mountain, at an elevation of around 1,400 meters. Due to this large altitude difference, passengers feel a bit nervous, tinnitus (but not serious), a bit of a headache, and cooler.
Ba Na Hills cable cars allow visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of Ba Na – Nui Chua Nature Reserve, a national protection area and the fresh air here. Below the cars, there are untouched and dense tropical forests stretching until the horizon line (with a diversity of plants), Toc Tien Waterfall (falling from the top of a 700-meters-high cliff) and other white water streams, massive granite outcrops,… So, no surprise that passengers can’t stop watching/taking photos of this beautiful wilderness and scenery.
During the ride, the weather itself also changes, from sunny, rainy to cloudy/foggy/misty, making the experience more stunning and worth doing. Sometimes, it’s possible to see thunder or lightning (and by that, car operation will be shut down). The ride down brings different angles and the temperature will increase (cold to hot). If going up to Ba Na Hills in the late afternoon, visitors will go down in the evening then. Sure, it’s dark but the view of millions of lights in the city and the sound of animals or whispering falls are totally new.
When it’s sunny (or the sky is clear), visitors will fall in love with the awe-inspiring panoramic view to the entire area below (exactly the whole Da Nang-Hoi An area). It stretches from Ba Na Hills to the ocean, across green outskirts with villages, farms and low hills, the city, coastlines, snake-like rivers running through rice fields, Son Tra Peninsula/Monkey Mountain, Cham Islands, little hills at the Marble Mountains, the mountain range of Bach Ma National Park and Hai Van Pass jutting out into the sea, and more. No other ways to help passengers to catch this view with the same qualities.
The best time to visit Ba Na Hills is the dry season, between February and September. If possible, visitors should go in this period, to have the best cable car experience and the best views.

After arriving at Ba Na Hills and buying tickets, visitors often are confused about how to get to cable car stations. Here is the direction to go from the main entrance to each cable car station:
– Hoi An Station: Firstly, walk through the big entrance under the Sun World Ba Na Hills sign. When it rains, the walking distance will be longer because the path through the garden is closed. Visitors must follow the covered walkway with Hoi An frescoes to see the station. See more information & details
After 3 PM: get the elevator/escalator or climb stairs on the left hand side to the upper level and walk straight until see the ticket check point. This is the shortest/quickest way to get to the Hoi An Station.

– Thac Toc Tien Station: same direction to the Hoi An Station but visitors need to get the escalator or claim staircases many times because this station is in a high location. Those who will stay in the hotel, have a free buggy transfer from the Hoi An Station to Thac Toc Tien Station to see the front desk and check in. See more information & details

Ba Na Hills Without Cable Car: Any Other Options?
At the moment, the cable car is only transport for tourists to go to Ba Na Hills which lies on the top of a high mountain. Traveling by cable car is also a safe way. Throughout the ride, visitors can enjoy watching the beautiful natural scenery.
There is one road leading to Ba Na Hills on which cars and small buses can go. However, it’s used only in the past decades (before the first cable car opened). Now, it’s closed for any tourist activities and transfers. Besides business reasons, the drive on it is not safe (especially on rainy or foggy days) and too long (that makes visitors not enjoy it after arrival).
Trekking in the jungle/mountain is prohibited by the government because the nature reserve is strictly protected. So, once again, taking the cable car is the only way to go up to Ba Na Hills today.

– Do not cut the queue because it’s a rude thing to do. Those who pay for a wow pass (a pass to skip the line) may go by a vip lane and enjoy the private car then.
– Before boarding, the cable car still opens and then is closed automatically. Please do not use your hand to try closing it. Remember that Ba Na Hills cable car is built and operated by world-standard technologies.
– During the ride, passengers keep sitting and do not stand up or dance to maintain the balance and safety of the ride.
