Better to Know about Hoi An Lantern Park
The Hoi An Lantern Park is a public park in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage site area. It’s surrounded by Bach Dang Street (north), Hoang Dieu Street (east), Thu Bon River (south) and houses (west). In the north of this park, there is the Hoi An Cloth Market (or Hoi An Fabric Market) where visitors will see many tailors and kiosks selling fashion items and souvenirs more than anywhere in Hoi An. On the other side of Bach Dang Street from the park, upstairs, it’s possible to see a bar where visitors can enjoy nice beverages with a view to the park and surrounding area.
In the past, the Hoi An Lantern Park was a parking lot where vehicles and goods belonging to sellers in Hoi An Cloth Market and Hoi An Central Market were put. In 2024, local authorities transformed this place into a public, designed park where locals and visitors can take a rest, do exercise or play sports. Here, there are two sculptures: one sculpture portrays typical lanterns (symbol of Hoi An) and one sculpture portrays a family making lanterns (a traditional industry in Hoi An). For that reason, the park is called ‘Hoi An Lantern Park’ (although it has no name yet).
At the end of the day, the riverside part of the Hoi An Lantern Park provides a perfect view to watch the sunset. The golden Thu Bon River with cruise boats, the orange sky and yellow buildings, make the scenery in this time extremely beautiful. There are numerous people coming here to take photos. To do the boat trip, it’s needed to walk to the harbour by the night market on Bach Dang Street. One boat can carry up to 10-12 people. Nearly all boats in the sunset go to the Moonlight Bridge to sightsee and take photos. See more information & details
In the evening, the Hoi An Lantern Park is a peaceful place, so it’s good to have a break after walking around the Old town. Again, from the river bank, visitors will enjoy watching colorful and lightful cruise boats moving on the river. This scene reminds about the era when Hoi An became the most bustling trading port in the region. Along Bach Dang Street, in the back of the Hoi An Cloth Market, there are stalls selling street food, such as banh mi, banana pancake, spring rolls, grilled rice paper, grilled pork skewers, etc. If walk further westwards, a night market will be seen there (around Hoi An Central Market).
