Does Ba Na Hills Open During Christmas & New Year?

During the Christmas and New year, Ba Na Hills still opens as normal. None of the attractions, activities and restaurants will be shut down if the weather is not bad. Actually, Vietnamese people just do not work on the New year day (1st January) to take a rest and celebrate the holiday with people all over the world. It also means that Vietnamese people still work during Christmas. However, Ba Na Hills is a privately owned tourist area (owned and managed by Sun Group Vietnam), so even during the New year day, it’s always open. Everyday, the park’s opening hours and cable car schedule are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and the ticket price is the same. Hotel rooms will be more expensive than common days like anywhere in the area.

Weather at Ba Na Hills During Christmas & New Year

Christmas and New Year are in the rainy season in Da Nang – Hoi An area. Therefore, the weather is often rainy, cloudy or foggy in Ba Na Hills. The temperature is usually below 20oC in the daytime and under 15oC in the evening. However, this place is without fog in some hours in the day, so visitors should check the weather forecast and choose the least rainy period to visit.

Do not forget to bring the umbrella, rain poncho or jacket when visiting Ba Na Hills in Christmas and New Year. If live in ‘hot countries’, it’s needed to bring jacket to keep you warm, especially when visiting at night or staying overnight.

Things to See & Do in Ba Na Hills During Christmas & New Year

During Tet or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, in Ba Na Hills, visitors can go to these attractions: Golden Hands Bridge (the bridge with two giant hands), Le Jardin d’Amour (a cluster of flower gardens), Debay Wine Cellar (a 100-years-old French wine cellar), giant Shakyamuni Buddha Statue (27 meters tall), Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda (the oldest and holiest temple), French Village (a complex of medieval style buildings), Saint Denis Church, Helios Waterfall, Ba Na Hills Brewery, King Peak or Top of Nui Chua Mountain at elevation of 1,487 meters, Lunar Castle, Fantasy Park (amusement park), Wax Museum, Atlas Statue, Eclipse Square,… Around the park, these activities are also fun to do: alpine coasters, funicular rides, rock climbing, amusement rides, Vietnamese folk games,…

Around the park, decorations and celebrations for Christmas and New year are always seen, including beautiful Christmas trees, bringing a joyful atmosphere and great photo opportunities. That’s why many visitors think that they are in a European country.

New year’s eve party and countdown is organized at Ba Na Hills for guests who stay in the hotel. Day trippers can participate, for free. On the last day of the old year, the cable car is still in operation to serve visitors as normal.

Although there is a church at Ba Na Hills (Saint Denis Church), no service or mass occurs here. So, Christians should go to other cathedrals and churches in Da Nang and Hoi An.

To eat, all restaurants and stalls are opened during Christmas and New year. So, visitors still have many food options to choose from. Book a buffet if want to try different cuisines at an affordable price. Unless, just go to restaurants where the favourite cuisine or type of food is served (such as western, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Korean, etc). At outdoor food courts, barbecues and craft/draught beers are available throughout the day. See more information & details

Itinerary to Visit Ba Na Hills In 1 Day

First time visitors will be a bit confused when sightseeing Ba Na Hills. To make the trip easier, please remember to take a map in ticket offices at the park’s main entrance or in the cable car (available in English/Vietnamese/Korean/Chinese/Thai). Secondly, if possible, go to the Hoi An Station and take the cable car to Golden Hands Bridge first. After that, explore other areas in the same mountain. The other portion of Ba Na Hills is located on another mountain, so visitors need to take the cable car again (at the station near Golden Hands Bridge, Bordeaux Station). After taking off the cable car, continue discovering the park. See full itinerary for self-guided visitors

Golden Hands Bridge During Christmas & New Year

One of the best known attractions in Ba Na Hills for foreign visitors is Golden Hands Bridge. This footbridge is 150 meters long, supported by two giant hands which rise out from the mountain and jungle. It’s wonderful to sightsee, take photos or make videos. On a sunny day, visitors will catch a beautiful panoramic view of the areas below (stretching from high cloudy mountains to the horizon on the sea). Golden Bridge is a must see.

Christmas and New year are high tourist seasons in the area. Therefore, Golden Hands Bridge at Ba Na Hills is usually crowded. Try to be here before the crowds come (taking the earliest cable car at 8:00 am) or just before the sunset (use google search to know the exact sunset time). Without people or many people, the best photos/videos can be taken. See more information & details

On the other hand, Christmas and New year are in December, a month within the rainy season in the area. Meaning that it may be cloudy/foggy, rainy for many days at Golden Hands Bridge. Sometimes, the typhoon hits Da Nang/Hoi An, causing heavy rains and strong winds (the cable car may be shut down for safety reasons in typhoon days). For that reason, we advise checking the weather forecast carefully to choose the best day or best (hours) if want to visit this world-famous bridge. Do not forget to bring a rain poncho/jacket or umbrella. See more information & details

How to Avoid the Crowd in Ba Na Hills During Christmas & New Year

During Christmas and New year, it’s very crowded at Ba Na Hills. So, if do not want to see too many people or long queues, visitors should go in the early morning or late afternoon-evening. The park and the cable car open at 8:00 am, so it’s needed to start the trip at 6:45-7:00 am in Da Nang and 6:15-6:30 am in Hoi An. If going from Hue city, please try to visit Ba Na Hills in the afternoon. Private transport is a must to save time (actually not expensive to book) and tickets should be reserved in advance to cut the queue at ticket offices. Going with a local guide is a smart choice because he/she knows the park well, and can tailor the itinerary that is just for you. See more information & details
