History & Architecture of Atlas Statue in Ba Na Hills
The Atlas Statue was inaugurated and opened to the public in 2022. It’s a building within a complex known as ‘kingdom of moon’ that comprises itself, the Lunar Castle, the Eclipse Square and Lava Train (funicular). All of these sights are on the other side to the older French Village complex on the map, on the same mountaintop. In the near future, the moon kingdom also has a modern wine cellar designed by a world-famous Italian architect. It will be opened soon.
In Greek mythology, Atlas is the god of strength and endurance. He is a Titan (pre-Olympian god) condemned to hold up the heavens or sky for eternity after the Titanomachy (ten-year series of battles that consist of most titans fighting against the Olympians, the younger generations and allies). His sculpture or statue often supports a globe/sphere or a structure of the larger construction, on his shoulders. The earliest Atlas depiction dates back to the 2nd century.
The Atlas Statue at Ba Na Hills is constructed in the most rugged location at foot of the Lava Castle (the pinky castle behind the glass dome of the Eclipse Square). It portrays Atlas god holding up the entire castle’s mountain, symbolizing the difficulties and challenges in his love with a lady. He looks to the Lunar Castle. On the other side of the mountain, finally he and his lover are together, and then they kiss at a volcano which symbolizes the explosion of love between boys and girls. From the cable car from Bordeaux Station (near Golden Hands Bridge) to Louvre Station, visitors can easily observe these massive sculptures. They are on a mountainside, at the foot of an enormous European style castle.
The best spot to see and take photos with the Atlas Statue is from the garden in the front of the Lunar Castle. It’s possible to climb up and stand on the top of this sculpture too. No matter whether it’s sunny or rainy, this is one of the most perfect spots to capture amazing pictures for social media.

How to Get to Atlas Statue in Ba Na Hills
The Atlas Statue is near the Lunar Castle of Ba Na Hills and is on the top of a mountain, around 1,400 meters above sea level. To get there, visitors need to ride the cable car, after coming to the park.
The shortest cable car to the Atlas Statue is the one boarding at the Bordeaux station (near the Golden Hands Bridge). This ride is short, about 5 mins. After landing, visitors can go to the Eclipse Square (get the escalator/escalator 2 times) and then walk, or go to the Holy Well station to ride the funicular (the station is on the lowest storey of Arapang restaurant).
If ride the cable car at Thac Toc Tien station or Debay station, visitors will land at L’Indochine station or Morin station. After going outside, let’s walk to the Louvre station or Arapang restaurant. If ride the cable car at Champa station, the arrival station is Taiga station. From here, to reach the Lunar Castle, it’s needed to walk through the French Village, and then find the Louvre station or Arapang restaurant.
To go to the park (Ba Na Hills) from Da Nang, visitors can take a ride by car/taxi/van/bus or drive the motorbike (not recommended for those who have luggage). For a better price, we advise booking a roundtrip transfer to Ba Na Hills, instead of one way. The best route for riding the motorbike is Ba Na – Suoi Mo road, a wide and low traffic road. From the hotel, visitors just need to find the shortest/quickest way to see it and then follow it until the security man at Ba Na Hills tells them to stop. Parking here is free.
From Hoi An, the best ways to reach Ba Na Hills (including the French Village) is by car and motorbike. A drive by car is about 1 hour long, costing from 1,000,000 VND for a roundtrip. Driving the motorbike isn’t too difficult but it takes a little bit more time to find the right directions on the way. Firstly, visitors need to follow the coastal road Lac Long Quan St until see Nam Ky Khoi Nghia St (in Da Nang), and then turn left, follow that road until can’t go anymore (due to construction). After that, follow QL1A highway and then Ba Na Suoi Mo road to the end.
