Best Ways to Get around Cham Island as a Tourist

Walking around Cham Island

In the main fishing village (Bai Lang), near the harbor where the boats dock, visitors can walk around and sightsee main attractions.

Here is our recommended walking itinerary:

– Go to Tan Hiep Market on the seaside road after arriving Cham Islands.

– Visit Xom Cam Well and Cham Island Marine Museum.

– Visit Hai Tang Pagoda and Tinh Xa Ngoc Tuyen Pagoda (need to walk cross the field to see them).

– Visit Au Thuyen (a typhoon shelter)

– Go to Bai Ong Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Cham Islands.

– Get back to the harbor.

Top tip: If want to explore the Cham Island by walking, you need to have good internet to navigate. Simcard from Viettel is best, and then Vinaphone, Mobiphone.

If plan to stay overnight on Cham Island, getting an internet simcard from Viettel is highly recommended.

Within Cham Island day trip from Da Nang or Hoi An, the walking tour in this fishing village is included. Local guide will show visitors the marine museum, the ancient well, the Buddhist temples, the market.

If stay overnight on Cham Island, consider doing a light trek from Bai Lang Village to Bai Huong Village (and back if like). The distance is 5km, not too much for a day. On the way, visitors can see Bai Xep Beach or Bai Chong Beach or Bai Bim Beach for swimming and sun bathing. At Bai Chong Beach, it’s possible to find food and beverage. There are some natural streams in the forests to go swimming too. Because the population on the island is not big, the coastal road between two villages is quite.

If be an active trekker, exploring the coast on the eastern side of the island is also very beautiful. This coast is inaccessible (not opened yet) for motorbike, so only walking is possible. It’s a dramatic, rugged landscape defined by steep, windswept cliffs and hidden coves that drop sharply into the deep, churning waters of the open sea.

Going around Cham Island by Motorbike

Today visitors can get around the Cham Island by motorbike. This is the most popular which local residents have used for their daily life nowadays.

From the harbor where the boats dock at Cham Islands, visitors can find local riders who use their motorbike to take people around the main fishing village Bai Lang. The price is about 200,000 VND per person per tour. Because local ride doesn’t know English, so we just expect that they will ride around safely and stop at several attractions for sightseeing, not explaining things during the tour like a professional guide. In July, there is also a motorbike ride available to Bai Xep Beach, where visitors can see flowers of the red parasol trees, famously blooming into a fiery orange-red canopy across the rocky cliffs. Beyond its beauty, the tree is a recognized Vietnam Heritage Tree used by locals for centuries to weave exceptionally durable, cooling hammocks from its resilient bark fibers.

For those who stay overnight on Cham Island, can hire a motorbike from the homestay/hotel (the price: 200,000-300,000 VND per day, depending on the seller). If book a place in Bai Lang (fishing village near the harbor), just walk to find it after arriving the island. If like spending the night in Bai Huong, a more peaceful fishing village 5km away from the harbor, a motorbike ride transfer is needed. If possible, the homestay/hotel can drop off the motorbike near the harbor and visitors can use immediately.

Before your own motorbike tour, make sure that the fuel is enough, especially when go to/from Bai Huong Village. There is no gas station on the island at the moment. Save phone number of the homestay host for an emergency call.

The most beautiful motorbike route now is the coastal road on the western shore of Cham Island, especially the winding road from Bai Lang to Bai Huong. It is a breathtaking ribbon of asphalt carved into emerald cliffs. On one side, lush tropical forests teem with life, while the other reveals an endless expanse of the shimmering East Sea. As you navigate the gentle curves, the turquoise water crashes against rugged rock formations below, offering a serene, salt-tined breeze and panoramic views of distant fishing boats bobbing in the tranquil horizon. The best time is between July and August. Don’t forget coming down to Bai Xep Beach, Bai Chong Beach or Bai Bim Beach for swimming or sun bathing!

Please note that the coastal road on the eastern side of Cham Island is inaccessible and closed for traffic due to landslide. However, visitors can ride the motorbike up to Eo Gio (view point) from Bai Lang main village to catch the spectacular views or/and sunrise if can go early.
