Can You Do Cham Islands without Tour?
It’s possible to visit Cham Islands without a tour today. If want to have a day trip, visitors can take the boat to this island and then go around by walking or motorbike (including some beaches). If want to stay overnight, it’s also easy to find a homestay. To get around, the most popular way is renting a motorbike (or a local motorbike rider if not confident). The most beautiful beaches are accessible by road (besides boat), therefore a beach hopping can be possible. See more information about staying on Cham Island
Here are things you need to know before go to Cham Island by yourself:
– All boats to the island depart at Cua Dai Port in Hoi An (not from Da Nang).
– The earliest boat departs at 8:00 AM.
– The latest boat departs at 13:00.
– Tourists need to pay an entrance fee (100.000 VND per person) to visit Cham Islands.
– Sometimes foreign visitors have to bring passport due to security reason.
– If have time, we recommend spending at least 1 night on Cham Island.
– There are only 2 villages to stay Bai Lang and Bai Huong. Bai Lang is convenient when it’s close to the pier. Bai Huong is remote, accessible by motorbike from Bai Lang (the main pier) but more peaceful.
– Do not bring plastic bags to Cham Island.

Cham Island 1-Day Itinerary for Self Guided Visitors
This is the itinerary to spend a day in Cham Islands:
– Go to Cua Dai Port in Hoi An (1 hour drive from Da Nang city and 20 minutes for Hoi An town center).
– Take the speed boat or ferry boat there to reach Cham Islands. Boats often depart at 8:00 or 9:00 AM. Because you have only a day on the island, we suggest taking the earliest boat (8:00 AM). Top tip: Do not bring plastic bag with you to the island!
– Arrive Cham Island after 20-30 minutes (Bai Lang Pier).
– Walk around the fishing village near Bai Lang Pier (known as Bai Lang Village) and see popular attractions: Hai Tang Pagoda, Tan Hiep Market, Cham Island Marine Museum, Xom Cam Well, Tinh Xa Ngoc Tuyen (temple), Au Thuyen (typhoon shelter). Top tip: Hire a motorbike ride around this village to save your time (near the pier).
– Go to Bai Ong Beach or Bai Xep Beach by walking or motorbike. It’s easy to find a motorbike for rent and local bike rider near Bai Lang Pier/Tan Hiep Market.
– Swim and go snorkeling at the beach. Visitors can see easily coral reefs and marine life right in Bai Xep Beach. If prefer Bai Ong Beach, it’s needed to hire a boat to nearby Hon Dai Island for underwater exploration.
– Have lunch with seafood because it’s very fresh on Cham Island (must try!). There is no restaurant on Bai Xep Beach, so if like it, visitors need to bring their own food and water, OR walk back to the village. Another option is skipping the sights at the village and going straight to this beach (then can return to the village earlier for lunch). At Bai Ong Beach, there are many restaurants to go. We recommend having a set menu which includes seafood and island’s specialty dishes like bitter grass salad, banh it la gai or ramie leaf rice cake,…. Top tip: Bring cash VND for payment!
– Return to Bai Lang Village (where the boat picks up) for buying souvenirs, having a coffee,…
– Take the boat back to Cua Dai Port at 13:00 (the latest boat).
– Arrive Cua Dai Port at 13:30. Go back to the hotel in Da Nang or Hoi An for relaxation. Top tip: Add one more beach in your day (like An Bang Beach) because it’s not too far from the port.
