What is Ba Na Hills?
30km to the west of Da Nang and Da Nang international airport, Sun World Ba Na Hills is a massive, world-class entertainment complex. Historically, this place was a hill station where French people came to avoid the heat (its elevation is above 1,400 meters). Festivals and outdoor performances take place here all year around. Golden Hands Bridge
Between Louvre cable car station and Le Jardin D’Amour gardens, the Golden Hands Bridge is a world-famous tourist attraction in Ba Na Hills. This walking bridge is known for its creative and unique design. It stretches for 150 meters, and gets supported by a pair of giant hands which symbolizes God’s hands. Artists use titanium to plate the handrails of the bridge, to make it golden, glorious, and luxurious, and use fiberglass and wire mesh to make stone-like, mossy, and wild hands. Since it opened in 2018, Golden Bridge has been a must see for many travelers, especially those who seek impressive and special pictures. If possible, watching sunrise or sunset here is mind-blowing. Hoi An Ancient Town & Attractions Within It
What is the Hoi An Ancient Town?
30km to the south of Da Nang and Da Nang international airport, this is the historic centre of Hoi An city, and a Unesco world heritage site (declared in 1999). Historically, it served as an international trading port where Vietnamese people and merchants from many countries buy and sell local products. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Hoi An was one of the most wealthy centers of commerce in Southeast Asia. The Japanese Covered Bridge
In the heart of the Hoi An Ancient Town, the Japanese Covered Bridge was constructed in the 17th century by Japanese people. That’s why it’s named ‘Japanese Bridge’. Later, Chinese people restored it and built a small temple behind it, to worship a Taoist god. Since then, locals have given it a new name ‘Pagoda Bridge’. Not only showing a peaceful friendship between populations living in Hoi An, the Japanese Bridge also proves the high craftsmanship of carpenters and builders coming from Kim Bong Carpentry Village. Chinese Assembly Halls & Temples
The Chinese community is the second most important local community in Hoi An. Ancestors of current generations migrated to the town from at least 500 years ago. In history, they built many assembly halls and temples, for worshipping the god, goddess or for communal activities and festivals. Old Houses of Hoi An
The Hoi An Ancient Town has around 1,000 traditional style houses today. Amongst them, there are some exceptionally well-preserved houses (called ‘heritage houses’) that visitors see and learn about the life of local families. Typical houses are Tan Ky House (at 110 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street), Phung Hung House (at 4 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street), Duc An House (at 129 Tran Phu Street), and Quan Thang House (at 77 Tran Phu Street).

The Marble Mountains & Attractions Within It
What is the Marble Mountains?
The Marble Mountains (Five Elements Mountain) is a complex of 5 spectacular marble hills which rises suddenly from the surrounding. In local legend, it’s formed from pieces of a dragon egg’s shell when it breaks (to allow a dragon baby to be born). Its largest mountain has old and traditional temples, majestic caves, and peaks with a beautiful 360-degrees view. To see all of the sights, visitors need to climb many stairs for a couple of hours. Linh Ung Pagoda (aka Non Nuoc Pagoda)
Original Linh Ung Pagoda (aka Non Nuoc Pagoda) is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Da Nang/Hoi An. It’s on the eastern side of the Marble Mountains. A king requested to build this pagoda in 1825, and gave it a glamorous imperial architecture and decorations. Its name means ‘wishes answered miraculously’. Behind this building, there is a network of 6 caves where Vietcong communists hid in the Vietnam war. Thich Thien Nguyen monk who led Linh Ung Pagoda, had contributions to construct two more temples of the same name in Da Nang (one in Ba Na Hills, one in Son Tra Peninsula). Am Phu Cave
Am Phu Cave is the longest cave in the Marble Mountains (about 200m long). It’s located at the foot of the mountain, so very easy to access. In Vietnamese language, its name means ‘the hell’, making all visitors curious to know about. Local buddhists and monks use images about the hell in the traditional culture to decorate it, such as ghosts, kings of the hell, 18 levels of the hell, evils,…. In the 1960s, this cave served as a field hospital for veterans and communists. See more information & details
Tam Thai Pagoda
Tam Thai Pagoda is the oldest temple in the Marble Mountains. It’s built in 1825 by the request of a king who wanted to fulfill his father’s promise to the Buddha. Younger sister of this king also came and stayed here as a nun. Different from other pagodas, it’s granted imperial architecture and decorations. Not far away, visitors can climb to a viewpoint where all mountains are seen. See more information & details
Huyen Khong Cave
Huyen Khong Cave is the most amazing cave in the Marble Mountains. Its height is up to nearly 20 meters. In the ceiling, there are several holes which allows natural sunshine to fall into this cave, creating majestic beams of light. The best time to see and take pictures is midday. In Huyen Khong Cave, local people worship gods, goddesses, and buddhas in small temples. Those who seek a son or a baby will come here and drink the water flowing from the rocks, before praying. Non Nuoc Marble Sculpture Village
Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village is around the foot of the Marble Mountains. Here, local inhabitants have carved stone sculptures since the 17th century. Before the 1990s, they used the marble in nearby mountains, but today, it’s imported from other places. Not only producing fine art carvings for the domestic market and for tourists, their sculptures are also exported to many countries in the world. Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain)
In the northeast of Da Nang city centre, Son Tra Peninsula (Son Tra Mountain/Monkey Mountain) is a nature reserve, home of thousands of plant and animal species. It has a lengthy, rugged, and spectacular coastline with some private sandy beaches. One of the highest points here is Ban Co peak, at an elevation of about 700 meters, is the meeting place of fairy men from heaven to play chess in local legend. In this peninsula, visitors can sightsee grand temples, giant buddhas, go hiking/trekking, go snorkeling/diving, riding the motorbike/jeep around, or watch/photograph red shanked douc langurs. Lady Buddha Statue
Lady Buddha Statue of Da Nang was the tallest in Vietnam when it’s built (2010). From the hilltop where it stands, it rises up to 67 meters, making it visible from everywhere in Da Nang city. In Vietnamese culture, the Lady Buddha is known as ‘Goddess of Mercy’ or ‘Goddess of Sea’ (for fishermen). She looks to the city, to bless local people a peaceful and happy life. Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda
Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda is the largest temple in Da Nang and Hoi An. It’s built from 2004 to 2010, on a hilltop on the southern coastline of Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain). It boasts extensive worshipping halls that are surrounded by lots of bonsai pots, bodhi trees, and flowers. From here, visitors can see outlooks with a breath-taking view to the city and blue ocean as well as sunrise/sunset. My Son Sanctuary World Heritage
One hour drive from Da Nang or Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary is one of the must visit attractions in the area. This is the holy land of Cham people who owned an Indianized kingdom stretching along Vietnam’s central coastline from the 2nd to 19th centuries. Here, they constructed over 70 towers and temples to worship Shiva god (god of destruction in Hinduism). Their building techniques are still not fully discovered yet. After a long-time abandonment and wars, only 20 towers survive. Because of its historic and archaeological importance, My Son was inscribed to be a world heritage site by Unesco in 1999. Beautiful Beaches in Da Nang & Hoi An
An Bang Beach
An Bang Beach is the best beach of Hoi An now. It boasts a non-stop and wide stretch of white fine sand, with crystal-clear seawater on the side, and restaurants/bars under coconut trees on the other side. From here, visitors can have a view to Cham Islands or see a brilliant sunrise during the dry season. In the summer, the water of this beach is warm, not deep and safe for going swimming (especially for children). Not only beautiful, An Bang Beach is also near Hoi An city centre (only 4km). Cua Dai Beach
Cua Dai Beach is a beautiful beach in Hoi An. From here, visitors can see a white-sandy shoreline by the blue sea, plus a view to Cham Islands. Under tall coconut trees, local restaurants serve delicious seafood dishes, and affordably-priced cold drinks. Although was damaged by erosion in past years, Cua Dai Beach today is still safe for going swimming, activities on the sand, or watching sunrise/sunset. My Khe Beach
Right in Da Nang centre, My Khe Beach is the best public beach of the city. It boasts a long, non-stop stretch of white fine sands by warm and unpolluted seawater, with a view to the Lady Buddha statue, Cham Islands, and the Monkey Mountain. On the other side, there are coconut trees, chilly clubs & beverage stores with plenty of chairs and loungers, inexpensive seafood restaurants, and high-rise hotels. Non Nuoc Beach
Between Da Nang and Hoi An, Non Nuoc Beach is equally beautiful and great to My Khe Beach on its northern side. However, it’s more private because there are lots of resorts built along it, giving it the nickname ‘the Riviera of Vietnam’. Visitors come here mostly to go swimming, cool off, stroll along the clean fine sandy shore, and relax on sun loungers under coconut trees. Bai Bac Beach or ‘North Beach’ is the private beach of InterContinental DaNang Sun Peninsula Resort, a high-end resort. This clean and white fine sandy beach is nearly 600 meters long, lying between crystal-clear seawater (bay) and lush coconut forests. Everything is nestled in a nature reserve, with dense tropical forests. Within a short walking distance, visitors can find many sun loungers, fancy bars, restaurants, and infinite pools.
Famous Bridges in Da Nang & Hoi An
The Dragon Bridge
Spanning the Han River, the Dragon Bridge is one of the best known bridges in Da Nang. It’s constructed from 2009 to 2013, with a special design selected from an international competition. This 600-meters-long bridge carries a six-lanes-road for two ways traffic, and a steel dragon which weighs up to 9,000 tons. The dragon portrays the one in Vietnamese royal palaces in the 10th century. It flies to the ocean, and spits fire and water in the evening every weekend. Han River Bridge
After the Vietnam war, the Han River Bridge is the first bridge spanning the Han River, in the centre of Da Nang city. It’s completed in 2000, with a length of nearly 488 meters. To allow boats to pass, this swing span bridge rotates 90 degrees at midnight, attracting many people to come to see. Tran Thi Ly Bridge
Tran Thi Ly Bridge was constructed from 2009 to 2013, and inaugurated at the same time as the Dragon Bridge. This 731-meters-long cable-stayed bridge spans the Han River, in the centre of Da Nang city, and is named after a local female hero. Its modern and remarkable design, with a tower rising up to 145 meters, portrays a sailing boat which is so ready to travel on the sea. The Love Lock Bridge
Da Nang’s Love Lock Bridge is 68 meters long, on the east bank of the Han River. It’s not too far from the Dragon Bridge. Here, couples come to attack their own padlocks to the railwings, and then throw the key into the river, to express their permanent love. This bridge is one of the most romantic places in Da Nang. Nguyen Van Troi Bridge
Next to the much larger Tran Thi Ly Bridge, Nguyen Van Troi Bridge is the oldest bridge across the Han River, in Da Nang city centre. It’s 514 meters long, and named after a local male hero. Since the sister bridge has been used, this bridge is closed for traffic and allows pedestrians only. The Moonlight Bridge
This 110-meters-long bridge spans the Thu Bon River, to connect Hoi An city and an island on which Hoi An Impression Theme Park is located. Like its name, this walking bridge gets inspired by the full moon and full moon lantern festival, the best known local festival in Hoi An. The best time to visit and photograph Moonlight Bridge is in the evening when it’s lit by colorful lamps. In the heart of Hoi An Ancient Town, the Hoai River is linked to its history as an international trading port. Today, it’s peaceful, and its banks have walking streets, sculpture parks, and cultural heritages. All finest wooden buildings inside the town (such as Japanese Bridge, Tan Ky House, Phung Hung House), were constructed by their ancestors. Nowadays, they contribute in restoring that buildings. Tra Nhieu Fishing Village
8km southeast of Hoi An Old Town, on Cam Kim Island, Tra Nhieu Fishing Village is the least touristy village in Hoi An. It has an untouched coconut forest, a harbour where fishing boats docks, hanging fishing nets on the river, and rice/corn/sedge/peanut fields.
