How to Visit Tien Sa Lighthouse
Tien Sa Lighthouse was constructed in 1902 by French people at the top of a 223-meters-tall rocky cliff on the coast of Son Tra Peninsula (formerly known as Tien Sa Peninsula or Tien Sa Cape). This is one of the oldest lighthouses in Vietnam that are still in use today. At that time, there is no road leading to its location, therefore building materials are transported by boats on the sea. After that, people would carry them uphill.
About the architecture, Tien Sa Lighthouse is 15 meters tall and 2,7 meters wide. It’s painted white and yellow (remaining from the French colonial time). The staircase leading up to the lamp, is accessible for one person only. Currently, there are 6 Vietnamese people staying and operating this lighthouse. Their house is just next to it. Because of no electric cables from the city to the lighthouse, it’s operated by the electricity from generators.
Because Tien Sa Lighthouse is still in operation, so visitors just can visit and photograph it from outside. Meaning that it’s impossible to enter the lighthouse and climb to the lamp at its top.
