Besides that, Chinese temples where gods and goddesses are worship, are also many. Ba Mu Temple (Ba Mu Pagoda)
Location/address: 528 Hai Ba Trung Street, Minh An ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, Vietnam
Opening hours: 24hrs a day, 7 days a week
Ticket price: individually, free but visitors need to buy a ticket costing 120,000 VND to enter Hoi An Old Town if want to sightsee
Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, Ba Mu Temple was constructed in the first half of the 17th century by Chinese people. Actually, this temple is a group of two temples. At one temple, people worship Ba Mu or the Midwives (fully ‘Twelve Midwives’) that each of whom holds a job in birth and foster care and teach babies different living skills. In addition, Baosheng Dadi (Chinese God of Medicine), Taishan Laoyun (the Supreme Venerable Sovereign), Xuantian Shangdi (the Black or Mysterious Heavenly Highest Deity) and 36 military generals investitured to gods in Chinese history are honored at the other temple. Phuc Kien Pagoda (Fujian Temple)

Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, Fujian Assembly Hall was constructed in the first half of the 17th century by a Chinese congregation coming from Fujian province. It’s used to be a place to gather in communal meetings and special events as well as to worship Thien Hau goddess (Goddess of Sea), the patron saint of the community who blesses safe journeys on the sea. Cau Pagoda (Bridge Pagoda)
Location/address: west end of Tran Phu Street, Minh An ward and east end of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, Cam Pho ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, Vietnam

Located in the heart of Hoi An Old Town world heritage, the Japanese Covered Bridge or Cau Pagoda or Bridge Pagoda is constructed in the 17th century by Japanese people. It comprises a ‘house with roof’ above and a bridge below. Later, Chinese people restored this place and added a small temple behind it, to worship Guan Yu, a Chinese military general who controls the flooding. Since then, local people have called it Chua Cau or ‘Bridge Pagoda’ (although no Buddha is worshipped here). Today, it’s the symbol of Hoi An. See more information & details

It’s used to worship Quan Cong, a Chinese military general who symbolizes loyalty, sincerity, integrity and justice as well as blessing good fortune, good business. Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, in the front of the Hoi An Central Market, Quan Am Pagoda was constructed in the 17th century or earlier. It’s used to be a place to worship Quan Am or Lady Buddha or Goddess of Mercy or Guanyin. After the war, although it lost many precious historical artifacts, its importance in the religious life of local people is unchanged and very important. Phap Bao Pagoda

Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, Phap Bao Pagoda was constructed in 1936 as the pagoda of the Provincial Buddhist Association of Quang Nam Province. This temple is used to worship three buddhas, including Sakyamuni Buddha (Phat Thich Ca Mau Ni) in the middle, Amitabha Buddha (Phat A Di Da) to the left, and Maitreya Buddha (Phat Di Lac) to the right. On both sides, there are altars for two bodhisattvas: Avalokitesvara (Quan The Am Bo Tat) and Mahasthamaprapta (Dai The Chi Bo Tat). Ong Bon Pagoda (Teochew Temple)

Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, Teochew Assembly Hall was constructed in the second half of the 19th century by a Chinese congregation coming from eastern Guangdong province of China. It used to be a place to gather in communal meetings and special events as well as to worship worship Ma Yuan, a Chinese military general and politician (lived from 14 BC to 49 AD) who became a god after death. His official title – Fubo Jiangjun or Phuc Ba Tuong Quan means ‘the General who Calms the Waves’. For merchants, fishermen, seafarers, and whoever often travels on the sea, he blesses a safe journey. Chuc Thanh Pagoda

Chuc Thanh Pagoda was constructed in the end of the 17th century by Minh Hai monk, making it one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Hoi An. This monk is a Fujian Chinese monk in the 34th generation of Linji school of Buddhism and later found his own Chuc Thanh school in Hoi An (so the pagoda is the head quarter). His burial tower is still seen in its ground nowadays. In the region, there are many pagodas where monks have practiced Chuc Thanh school. See more information & details

Phuoc Lam Pagoda was established in the middle of the 18th century. It’s one of the oldest and the largest Buddhist temples in Hoi An today. Located in the Hoi An Old Town world heritage, the Confucius Temple of Hoi An (or Confucian Temple of Hoi An) is constructed in 1961 when the city served as capital of Quang Nam province. It’s used to worship Confucius (685-758, most famous philosopher, teacher, and political theorist of China), his disciples, and local students who passed Vietnam’s imperial examinations by 1945. The Cao Dai Temple of Hoi An was constructed in 1950 by local Caodaists who follow Caodaism, a syncretistic faith founded in Vietnam that combines Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity. For that reason, this temple looks like a church but has decorative elements taken from other religions across Asia. Cam Pho Temple

Cam Pho Temple or Cam Pho Communal House is the communal house of Cam Pho village, one of the earliest found villages in Hoi An today (about 15th century). So, it might have been constructed in the same period. In the 19th century, it’s largely restored. Here, local people worship the Four Holy Mothers/Queens (Tu Vi Thanh Cuong) or Dai Can Goddess, a water deity who blesses safe journeys on the river. Like other Vietnamese communal houses, 9 other deities are also honored at Cam Pho Communal House. Itinerary to Visit Hoi An Old Town for First Timer
First of all, to enter and visit the Hoi An Old Town (the part inscribed by Unesco), visitors need to buy an entry ticket. We suggest this itinerary for first timers:
Total distance: 1,65 kilometers
– Starting point: the Japanese style gate (the west end of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street). A model of the Red Seal Ship (Japanese merchant’s ship) and a ticket office are in a close distance.
– Walk along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street. On this road, visitors will have the chance to sightsee Cam Pho Communal House (ticket required), Japanese Culture Gallery (ticket required), Phung Hung Old House (one of the best heritage houses, ticket required), Nguyen Tuong Family Chapel (in the alleyway, ticket required).
– Visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, the symbol of Hoi An. This place definitely is a must see attraction.
– Walk along Tran Phu Street, the most beautiful road in Hoi An, until Hoi An Central Market. On this road, visitors will have the chance to sightsee so many historical attractions. From the bridge to the market, there are Cantonese Assembly Hall (ticket required), Museum of Sa Huynh Culture (ticket required), Duc An Old House (ticket required), Kazik Park (free), Quan Thang Old House (ticket required), Museum of Trade Ceramics (ticket required), Trung Hoa Assembly Hall (ticket required), Fujian Assembly Hall (ticket required), Quan Cong Temple (ticket required), Quan Am Pagoda (ticket required), Hoi An Central Market (free to enter), a couple of rooftop coffee shops, Instagrammable spots, shophouses selling lanterns, food, souvenirs and fashion items.
– Walk southwards and along Tieu La Street (east side of Hoi An Central Market). On this road, there are many vendors and stalls selling a diversity of local products, giving a good chance to know about local life and photograph.
– Walk westwards and along Bach Dang Street (the riverside street). On this road, visitors will see Hoi An Traditional Performance House (ticket required if want to watch shows) and Museum of Folklore (ticket required).
– Turn into Le Loi Street and then turn left, walking along Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. On this road, visitors will see Tan Ky Old House (one of the best heritage houses, ticket required) and Diep Dong Nguyen Old House (not yet opened to visitors, see from outside).
– The ending point: the crossroad near the north end of An Hoi Bridge or the west end of Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. In the evening, from here, visitors can walk cross the bridge and then turn right to see the entrance of the Hoi An Night Market, the biggest night market in Hoi An.
