History of Xuan Thieu Beach
On 8th March 1965, the first US combat troops landed on Vietnam at Xuan Thieu Beach (known as the Red Beach by the Americans). This is a turning point in the Vietnam War (1955-1975).
Later, Xuan Thieu Beach was part of the Red Beach Base Area managed by the former US Navy, Marines and Army, and the Army of Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). Today, it belongs to the People’s Army of Vietnam.
Best Time to Visit Xuan Thieu Beach
The best time to visit Xuan Thieu Beach in the year is the dry season, from February to the end of August. In this period, the weather is beautiful, with lots of sun and no rain. For that reason, it’s a perfect time to sightsee, sunbathe, go swimming, take pictures, and play water sports.
The worst time of the year to visit Xuan Thieu Beach is the rainy season, from September to January. The weather in these months is mostly rainy and cloudy, so it’s not really great to head over to the beach. Between October and December/January, typhoons may hit the area, causing very strong winds and waves as well as heavy rains and floods.
In December and January, generally it often rains. The heaviest rain will be in late December and early January (around Christmas, New year holidays). In late January, visitors can expect dry or sunny days to visit Xuan Thieu Beach. Check the weather forecast to choose the best days or hours!

Things to Do in Xuan Thieu Beach, Da Nang Vietnam
Xuan Thieu Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Da Nang Vietnam. It has a 3-kilometers-long stretch of soft sand between lush sea pine forests and the ocean. Here, visitors will enjoy seeing a mesmerizing natural scenery with white sand, blue sea, green vegetations, blue sky, and the view to the city and nearby mountains. To the left, that are Nam O Point (a small rocky cape), Hai Van Pass range (a long mountain range with peaks crowned by white clouds, the highest point is above 1,000 meters) and Son Cha Island (a small conical shaped island at the entrance of the bay). To the right, there are tall buildings, Tien Sa Port (the largest port in central Vietnam) and Son Tra Mountain (also known as the Monkey Mountain) which rises up to 700 meters.
On the other hand, Xuan Thieu Beach is also safe for swimming. In the dry months, many local people come here to go swimming and do exercise. For that reason, visitors can follow. Our advice is that visitors just swim in places where locals swim.
If visit Xuan Thieu Beach, remember going to Mikazuki Water Park, one of the largest theme parks in Da Nang area. It has an indoor area with pools, slides and playgrounds, and an outdoor area with pools and artificial streams. Here, there is a Japanese Onsen spa where visitors have the chance to bath in hot springs. From the water park, walk cross Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass to see the restaurant and bar on the beach. How to Get to Xuan Thieu Beach in Da Nang
Xuan Thieu Beach is on Nguyen Tat Thanh Road, Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city, Vietnam (between Nam O Heritage Hotel and Mikazuki Resort/Water Park).
From Da Nang city center, the distance to Xuan Thieu Beach is about 10 kilometers (northwest). Visitors can take a taxi, private car/van/bus or ride the motorbike to this beach. No public transport is available currently. If going by bike, just find the quickest way to Nguyen Tat Thanh Road and then go westwards until see Mikazuki Resort/Water Park. Park the bike on the pavement by the beach or at local beverage stores if want to have a drink and enjoy the views.
