History & Architecture of Saint Denis Church in Ba Na Hills
The Saint Denis Church at Ba Na Hills is in the heart of the French Village, a complex of over 30 constructions that is known as ‘Little Europe in Vietnam’. It’s built in two years and inaugurated on 25th April 2015, to commemorate the 40th Da Nang Liberation Day. Here, besides the church, there are hotels, restaurants, café, souvenir shops, bakeries, gardens and outdoor spaces where western-style barbecues and craft beer are served, alongside live music and cheering performances. Architecture of buildings in the French Village dates back from the 19th century when French people started using Ba Na Hills as a hill station to avoid the heat. At that time, many hotels were constructed here. See more information & details
Saint Denis Church at Ba Na Hills boasts elegant and magnificent Gothic architecture. Although built in a recent decade, it looks like a building dating from some hundreds of years ago. Even if we do not tell you this fact, you never know! From a far distance, around the French Village, it’s possible to observe it. Here, visitors can see two tall pillars, a well-nigh perfect façade with statues of Christ and other figures and a rose window above, a tile-covered roof, and lots of gargoyle (lions which symbolize the majesty of Christ). Inside the church, the ceiling, columns and vaults are all splendid, providing a spacious and grand space. On the wall, there are beautiful and colorful stained glass windows, depicting different subjects and figures in the Christianity. The fact that no service (or mass) is available in this church.
On the square in front of Saint Denis Church at Ba Na Hills, live performances occur between 10 am and 3 pm every single day. Here, international artists will dance, sing, play western musical instruments, and bring a magic or comedian show. The atmosphere is really festive, fully joyable, and vibrant. On the stone-paved roads by this church, visitors will see street artists such as painters, cosplayers, ‘standing man’, ‘super man’, robots, cartoon figures, etc to use their service or take pictures. Additionally, the Saint Denis Church is just within a short walk from places/stages where grand shows take place as well as the amusement park. Its surroundings are a must go.
In the evening, Saint Denis Church at Ba Na Hills is lit up by plenty of lamps, making it lightful and romantic. During many nights, the village is soaked into the fog, and this church looks misty, dreamy and mythical. The whole area takes its nickname ‘Little Paris’ by that. To have the ‘winter’ experience, visitors need to go to Ba Na Hills late in the day or go on an evening tour or stay in the hotel (now Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills). For sure, the temperature in the mountain is colder after it’s dark, therefore a jacket is necessary to bring.

How to Get to Saint Denis Church in Ba Na Hills
The Saint Denis Church is in the French Village complex of Ba Na Hills, An Son village, Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang Vietnam. It’s near the L’Indochine Cable Car Station or Morin Cable Car Station.
The shortest cable car to the French Village is the line from Thac Toc Tien Station to L’Indochine Station. It’s about 5 km long (ever held the Guinness record ‘the longest cable car in the world’). Its operation changes daily, so visitors just can check it on the day they come. Hotel guests always need to come to Thac Toc Tien Station for check in. This station is up the hill, and accessible by escalators and walking.
To go to the park (Ba Na Hills) from Da Nang, visitors can take a ride by car/taxi/van/bus or drive the motorbike (not recommended for those who have luggage). For a better price, we advise booking a roundtrip transfer to Ba Na Hills, instead of one way. The best route for riding the motorbike is Ba Na – Suoi Mo road, a wide and low traffic road. From the hotel, visitors just need to find the shortest/quickest way to see it and then follow it until the security man at Ba Na Hills tells to stop. Parking here is free.
From Hoi An, the best ways to reach Ba Na Hills (including the French Village) is by car and motorbike. It takes about 1 hour to get there by car. Driving the motorbike isn’t too difficult but it takes a bit to find the right directions on the way. Firstly, visitors need to follow the coastal road Lac Long Quan St until see Nam Ky Khoi Nghia St (in Da Nang), and then turn left, follow that road until can’t go anymore (due to construction). After that, follow QL1A highway and then Ba Na Suoi Mo road to the end.
