Things to See & Do in Green Lake of Da Nang
The Green Lake (Ho Xanh) is a peaceful and lovely lake which has green water, making its name. This 6,5-hectares lake is originally a quarry lake left after a long period of stone mining. Today, mining activities stop. The water from it is used to provide tap water for citizens who live in the city. For that reason, except sightseeing, people can not do anything else, such as going fishing, rowing the boat, water games, etc. In the summer, some vendors sell cold beverages and sugar cane juice for visitors who will go to Lady Buddha, Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda then.
At Doi Chay (the ‘Burning Hill’) next to the Green Lake, visitors will see a very beautiful panoramic view of Da Nang city. The nearest body of water is the lake itself, and between it and the blue sea, that is a narrow strip of land. Along the coastline, there are tall buildings (mostly hotels) and distant mountains behind them. During the dry season, this is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Da Nang.
In the evening, many young locals like going camping at Doi Chay site. After enjoying watching the brilliant sunset here, they continue admiring the beauty of the city when thousands of lamps are lit up. The view is very impressive. The next day, the scenery is again breath-taking, providing lots of photo opportunities.
By the way, the name of the hill comes from the dry grasses covering it. In the hottest time of the year, they are burnt due to intense heat. That’s why local people call it ‘the Burning Hill’.
Many local couples come to the Green Lake and the Burning Hill to photograph for their wedding photos.
