– Fact: Ky Anh is the former name of Tam Thang, Tam Thanh and Tam Phu communes in Tam Ky city

Located in Tam Ky (formerly Quang Nam province, south of Da Nang), the Ky Anh Tunnels form one of Vietnam’s three largest underground resistance networks, originally stretching 32 kilometers through local sand and clay layers. Excavated by hand between 1965 and 1967, this intricate “sand fortress” served as a crucial strategic base, food cache, and civilian bomb shelter. Unlike heavily commercialized sites, surviving sections like those beneath Thach Tan village offer a raw, unpolished glimpse into wartime history, featuring narrow, low-ceilinged passageways, secret trapdoors, and command bunkers deeply tied to the resilience of local villagers. – Fact:

Located in Quang Tri Province, the Vinh Moc tunnels are an underground village complex hand-dug into red basalt hills during the Vietnam War. Spanning three levels down to a depth of 23 meters, this 2-kilometer subterranean network served as a bomb shelter for hundreds of villagers. Unlike cramped military-focused tunnels elsewhere, Vinh Moc featured family quarters, kitchens, wells, a medical station, and even a maternity room where 17 children were born. Remarkably, despite heavy bombardments, no lives were lost within the complex. Read more information and details
