Ancestral Temple of Swallow Nest Gatherers (Mieu To Nghe Yen)
Located in the heart of Bai Huong Village, near the coast, the Ancestral Temple of Swallow Nest Gatherers (Mieu To Nghe Yen) was constructed in 1848 by Sir Ho Van Hoa and other leaders of Thanh Chau Village. Local tradition of gathering bird nests might begin in the 17th century when Vietnamese people settled down in the area, and have been alive. In 2016, it’s registered as a national intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam.
About the architecture, the Ancestral Temple of Swallow Nest Gatherers has a triple gate. Above the middle entrance, there are 4 Chinese words (name of the temple) and on the columns, there are four parallel sentences. Some traditional motifs are used to decorate it.
Many photographers go to the Ancestral Temple of Swallow Nest Gatherers in Bai Huong Village to hunt beautiful photos about local women weaving fishing nets at its entrance gate.
Between the triple gate and the worshipping building, visitors will see a yard that is paved by tiles produced in Bat Trang Village (Hanoi capital, northern Vietnam). Plus, it has two big trees too, including a 16-meters-tall tree and a 18-meters-tall tree. Both of them were grown about 200 years ago. In 2014, they’re honored to be national heritage trees of Vietnam.
The main building is to worship ancestors of those who have been gathering swallow nests in Cham Island today. On the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, a ceremony will be held to commemorate ancestors and pray for good fortune, good health, safety and good weather. This is the biggest traditional cultural event on the island during the year. After it, local people come to rocky caves near Bai Huong Village to collect the swallow nests. They do this work again on the 8th lunar month.

Tinh Xa Ngoc Huong Pagoda
By the beach, Tinh Xa Ngoc Huong Pagoda is the only Buddhist temple in Bai Huong Village. It has a tiled worshipping building, with statue of Lady Buddha (Goddess of Mercy, Goddess of Sea) in the front, statues of Reclining Buddha and Gautama Buddha in the garden. Before going fishing or diving, local people come here to pray for safety.

Heritage Banyan Tree
3 kilometers north of Bai Huong Village, on the coastal road looping Cham Island, this giant banyan tree is 600 years ago; It’s honored to be Vietnam’s national heritage tree in 2015.

Bai Huong Village is located near the easternmost point of Cham Island. It’s a small fishing village where visitors can find accommodations and stay overnight. To get there from Hoi An or Da Nang, it’s needed to go to Cua Dai Port first. Here, take the ferry boat or speed boat (speed boat tickets will be more expensive). The boats often land on Bai Lang, the biggest village on Cham Island. After that, to reach Bai Huong Village from Bai Lang Village, visitors need to take a boat again or a motorbike ride from local riders. To avoid the overpriced service, talk with the homestay owner in Bai Huong before going.
If staying overnight in the main village Bai Lang, visitors can take a boat to Bai Huong Village (and back). Go to the wharf on the beachfront to ask local people to use their wooden boat or speed boat to get there. It takes you about 15 minutes each way. The other way is riding the motorbike. The distance between two villages is 5 kilometers.
