Constructed in 1924, Sung Hung Pagoda (Sung Hung Co Tu) is the oldest Buddhist temple in Duong Dong Town and whole Phu Quoc Island Vietnam. After its triple gate, there are one statue of standing Lady Buddha and two small shrines where local people worship Ba Chua Xu Goddess (a prosperity goddess worshipped across Mekong delta section of Vietnam) and Nguyen Trung Truc (a local fisherman who fought against French people in 1860s). The main hall is dedicated to worship of Lord Buddha, Kings of the Hell, Shakyamuni Buddha and Amitabha Buddha.
Since a long time, Sung Hung Pagoda with Dinh Cau Temple and Dinh Ba Temple are a trio of the holiest places on the island of Phu Quoc. During the French and American wars, it played its role as hiding place of Vietnamese communist party’s leaders.

Dress Code at Sung Hung Pagoda (Phu Quoc)
Sung Hung Pagoda is a temple, so all visitors should wear respectfully. It’s needed to use a shirt covering the armpits, shoulder and navel, and pants covering the upper knees. For example, tank top, crop top, shorts are not appropriate. Making sure that nowhere is see-through. Vietnamese traditional costume – Ao dai (the long dress) is highly recommended from local authorities.
Before entering the worshipping building, it’s needed to take shoes off (wearing shocks is okay), remove hat, rain poncho and sunglasses (for the umbrella, don’t bring inside!).
By the way, every visitor is advised getting one incense stick only if want to pray. The smoke from burning incenses will harm cultural and architectural heritages (like fire). It also helps to reduce air pollution.
