How to Get to Cham Island from Hoi An
To get to Cham Island from Hoi An, visitors need to have a transfer to Cua Dai Port (within Hoi An) and then take a boat or ferry to the island. The port is in the end of Au Co Road (by the estuary of Thu Bon River). Here are ways to go to it from different parts of Hoi An:
– From Cua Dai ward: Cua Dai Port is located in this area, so visitors can walk, ride the bicycle or motorbike, or take a taxi (depending on the distance and the availability). From some hotels (such as Renaissance Hoi An Resort), the port is very close.
– From Hoi An city center (Minh An ward, Son Phong ward, Cam Pho ward, the Old town, An Hoi island, Cam Chau ward): The distance to Cua Dai Port is around 8,5 kilometers. Visitors can take a taxi/car/van/bus or ride the motorbike to go to this place. It takes 15-20 minutes if go by car, and 20-30 minutes if go by motorbike. Bike parking is near the port’s entrance, requiring a fee of 5,000-10,000 VND. The quickest way for motorbike is finding the shortest direction to Cua Dai Road or Hai Ba Trung Road. After that, follow it (towards the sea) until seeing the crossroad with Lac Long Quan Road. Turn right, keep going and the port lies in the end of Au Co Road.
If book a day trip to Cham Islands from Hoi An (private or group tour), the bus will pick up at the hotel within Hoi An city center.
– From Cam An ward (An Bang Beach area, Tan Thanh Beach area): The distance to Cua Dai Port is from 5 to 7 kilometers, so visitors can ride the bicycle or motorbike, or take a taxi (depending on distance, availability and budget).
– From Cam Thanh area: The distance to Cua Dai Port is from 5 to 8 kilometers, so visitors can ride the motorbike, or take a taxi (depending on distance, availability and budget).
– From hotels/resorts in South Hoi An area (to the south of Cua Dai Bridge, including Hoiana Resort, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An Resort, Bliss Hoi An Resort,…): The distance to Cua Dai Port is from 10 to 20 kilometers, so visitors have to take a private car.
– From hotels/resorts in Ha My Beach area (or Dien Duong area, including Four Seasons Hoi An Resort, Radisson Blue Resort, Wyndham Hoi An Resort, Mercure Hoi An Resort, Citadines Pearl Hoi An Resort,…): The distance to Cua Dai Port is from 10 to 15 kilometers, so visitors have to take a private car.
At Cua Dai Port, visitors will see local tour companies arranging day trips and speedboat tickets. The price is around 100,000 VND/person/way if want to go by boat ferry, and it’s more expensive if go by speed boat. It excludes the entry fee to Cham Islands (70,000 VND/person) and the ecological fee (20,000 VND/person) (because the islands is a protection area). Paying by cash (VND) is needed, therefore should prepare in advance.

If don’t want a tour or stay overnight on the island, make sure that you buy boat tickets for 2 ways. Boats going from the port to the island are available before the noon, and the boats returning to the mainland are available in the noon onwards. Save phone number of the provider to contact when needed.
As a foreigner, please take a photo of your passport (the page shows your personal information). Tour companies will require to announce local authorities. The reason is that Cham Islands has been managed by the army.
Boats will drop you off in Bai Lang Wharf (the main wharf) if just buy a boat ticket. From here, it’s easy to walk to historical sites, beaches, the market, and hotels/homestays (such as Hai Tang Pagoda, Bai Ong Beach,…). If book a hotel/homestay in Bai Huong Village (5km from Bai Lang), please hire a local motorbike ride to take you there. To go back, please come to Bai Lang Wharf at least 20 minutes before departure.
In Cua Dai Port, it’s possible to find stores and vendors selling swimsuit/swimwear, sun glasses, phone cover to take photos under the sea, sun cream,… as well as foods and beverages (cold soft drinks, coconut, coffee, snacks,…).
The public ferry from Hoi An to Cham Island is shut down. Both locals and tourists need to buy a boat ticket in Cua Dai Port to reach the island.
To go back to Hoi An city center from Cua Dai Port, visitors need to take a taxi or book a private car in advance.
