Hoi An is famous for tailoring due to its hundreds of skilled artisans who can create high-quality, custom-made garments—from suits to dresses—with an incredibly fast turnaround time, often in just 24 hours. This industry is rooted in the city’s history as a major Silk Road trading port, offering bespoke fashion at significantly affordable prices compared to many international destinations.
Hoi An walking tour
Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. In 1999, it’s honored to be a world heritage site. This town is famous for pretty narrow streets with yellow-wall houses, colorful lanterns and many tailor shops. It’s also one of the most photographed places in Vietnam. See more details
In this Hoi An walking tour, you will see these places:
– Japanese Covered Bridge: the symbol of Hoi An. This wooden building was constructed in the 17th century by Japanese people. Today, it’s also called ‘Pagoda bridge’ because it has a small temple where the locals worship a Taoist god. See more details
– Tan Ky Old House: the most typical old wooden house in Hoi An. Its main entrance is on a main street and its back is by the river (or quay). The family who owns it, sold the silk and cinnamon in the past and the wealth of the family is reflected by premium furniture, collections of antiquities and decorative items. In the last hall, visitors can see the water levels of the floods by year. See more details
– Fujian Assembly Hall: the largest and most prominent of Hoi An’s Chinese assembly halls, originally built in the late 17th century by the largest Chinese community of migrants. It serves as both a place of congregation for the Fujian community and a magnificent temple primarily dedicated to Thien Hau, the Goddess of the Sea, reflecting the merchants’ reliance on safe maritime travel. See more details
– Hoi An Central Market: the largest and oldest marketplace in the city, located right in the heart of the Ancient Town, acting as a vibrant hub of daily local commerce. It is a popular destination for visitors seeking authentic local life, offering everything from fresh produce, spices, and souvenirs to an acclaimed food court where you can sample regional specialties. See more details
– Museum of Folklore: one of the Ancient Town’s largest and best-preserved wooden merchant houses, showcasing the quintessential architecture of the area. It features nearly 500 artifacts across four main themes—folk visual arts, performing arts, traditional craft villages, and daily life—that illustrate the rich cultural heritage and daily customs of the Hoi An people.
