Itinerary

Meet up

Meet up time: 4:00 PM (local time)

Our guide will see you at the meeting point – HD Bank, 244 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hoi An city.

Try traditional cakes at a vendor

Meet a female vendor who has sold small, afternoon cakes/snacks for +20 years in the place. She comes from Hue where the cakes originate. At her stall, you can use spicy or non-spicy fish sauces, or/and Hoi An-style chili sauce for a perfect meal.

Banh beo (‘water fern cake’): a popular snack consisting of small, steamed rice cakes served in tiny saucers, traditionally topped with savory ingredients like dried shrimp flakes, fried pork skin cracklings, and a sweet-and-spicy dipping sauce. See more details

Banh bot loc (tapioca cake): a beloved central Vietnamese delicacy featuring small, chewy, translucent tapioca dumplings traditionally filled with a whole shrimp and pork belly, served with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. See more details

Walk pass by Hoi An Church (oldest church in Vietnam)

Hoi An Catholic Church was built in 1615.

Try fetal duck egg/balut (optional)

Meet a middle-aged woman who sells Trung vit lon on the pavement, a popular street food consisting of a boiled, fertilized duck embryo that is incubated for about 19 to 21 days and typically served hot with Vietnamese coriander, salt, pepper, and lime juice. See more details

Try Mi quang noodles

Visit one of the most famous and long-standing local eateries in Hoi An, specializing in the iconic Central Vietnamese dish, Mi quang. The eatery is renowned for its flavorful, limited broth, tender pork, shrimp, and the signature crunchy sesame rice cracker served alongside the noodles. Founded by Mrs. Hat, who started as a humble street vendor, the spot maintains an authentic, no-frills atmosphere beloved by both locals and tourists. If you want to experience a truly authentic Mi quang bowl while in Hoi An, this is often cited as a must-visit destination.

Try grilled pork skewers

Visit a street vendor who sells delicious grilled pork skewers. The dish is traditionally eaten as a do-it-yourself roll: you wrap the hot, flavorful pork, fresh herbs from Tra Que vegetable village, and a layer of wet rice paper inside a crisp dried rice paper. The roll is then dipped generously into a unique, rich peanut and soybean dipping sauce for a perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and crunchy textures.

Ba Le Well

Visit Ba Le Well, dating back to the 10th century and dug by the Cham people, the ancient Ba Le Well is revered as a vital cultural and culinary fixture in Hoi An, famous for its uniquely pure water considered essential for making traditional dishes like Cao lau noodles (will try later in this tour).

Despite the advent of modern plumbing, a few dedicated individuals still sustain a living by carrying and selling this prized well water to local restaurants, thus preserving a centuries-old culinary tradition.

Try black sesame soup

Visit home of Mr Ngo Thieu, who has been honored with the title ‘pudding master’ for making and selling the traditional sweet black sesame soup (xi ma or chi ma phu) for decades. After his death, his family members still keep the tradition of making this soup.

Try black sesame soup, a unique, traditional dessert with roots in Chinese culinary culture. This subtly sweet, dark, and velvety soup is made from ground black sesame seeds, combined with ingredients like kudzu/sweet potato starch, sugar, and sometimes fragrant herbs for a distinctive nutty and nourishing flavor. See more details

Walk through the food court of Hoi An Central Market

The food court inside Hoi An Central Market is a vibrant, bustling sensory experience where the fragrant aromas of cooking fill the air and local life unfolds around the communal tables. This is a must-visit destination for travelers looking to sample authentic Central Vietnamese preparations from multiple vendors in a lively, affordable, and quintessential market atmosphere.

Try rice paper pizza

Meet a vendor, watch how she/he makes a rice paper pizza, a popular street snack originating from central Vietnam. It’s made by grilling a thin rice paper over hot charcoal. Toppings like quail eggs, dried shrimp, scallions, and minced pork are quickly added and cooked directly on the cracker. The final result is a warm, crispy, savory treat, often brushed with chili sauce, delivering a uniquely crunchy and flavorful experience. See more details

Try ice cream rolls at night market

Walk through a night market with numerous street food and souvenir stalls. It’s less busy than the famous one near Japanese Bridge.

Here, watch how the locals make ice cream rolls and try it to end the tour. This popular, photogenic street dessert is a theatrical treat where vendors pour a sweet liquid base onto a freezing pan, mix in fresh toppings, and scrape the resulting mixture into delightful frozen rolls, often found at the bustling night markets. See more details

End the tour

Our evening walking street food will end in Hoi An Old Town. After saying goodbye to our guide, you can freely explore this heritage area or go back to the hotel to relax.
