Motorbike Rental in Da Nang & Hoi An

Vietnam is one of the countries which have the most motorcycles per capita. It seems that nearly all adults here have at least one. For that reason, it’s easy to hire the motorbike in Vietnam and the price won’t be high too.

Visitors can ask for rental service at the hotel first (almost all hotels in Da Nang and Hoi An have!). If not available or fully booked, it’s needed to contact some local businesses online to get one bike. The price for a semi-automatic motorcycle is usually cheaper than automatic motorbikes. It fluctuates from 150,000 to 300,000 VND for 1 day (morning to evening). To ride to Ba Na Hills, both of these types are fine and safe. Please choose a new or well-maintained bike. Having a test is widely accepted, so let’s do it to check how smooth it goes before hitting the road.

All people sitting on the motorbike must wear a helmet in Vietnamese traffic law. Each person will have one helmet at the place they hire the motorbike. Meaning that it’s free. In some places, complimentary rain ponchos are provided (but can not take it when returning the bike!).

Visitors usually have to fill up motorbikes at their own expense. However, gasoline in Vietnam is not expensive (about 1 USD for one liter). Petrol stations are along major roads leading into/out the city, especially at crossroads. On the way from Da Nang to Hoi An, there are many gasoline stations to stop.

When change the mind to hire a private transfer by car, text us by whatsapp +84968009827 to book with a fair price.

Motorbike Routes from Hoi An to My Son Sanctuary

North Thu Bon River Route

This route is a combination of DT608 (from Hoi An to Vinh Dien), DT 609 (from Vinh Dien to Ai Nghia) and DT610 (from Ai Nghia to My Son Sanctuary). It runs through towns and villages located in the north of the Thu Bon River, the largest river of the province. The direction is west and then south.

From anywhere in Hoi An city, visitors need to go to the crossroads of Hung Vuong Street and 28 Thang 3 Street first (under Cam Kim Bridge, near Thanh Ha Market). It’s near the entrance of Thanh Ha Pottery Village and a traffic light is here.

After that, go along Hung Vuong Street (westwards) or DT608 until see Tran Nhan Tong Street in Vinh Dien Town (through rice fields, then under a bridge). Here, turn right, cross Vinh Dien Bridge, keep riding on the main road (with a median strip) until see its crossroad with a newly-constructed road (Google maps location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nvr18FYbmPD3aiSo9). Turn left to enter that new road and follow it until its end (near a petrol station).

To go to My Son, visitors need to turn right and keep riding along DT609 until see the 4-roads intersection of Hung Vuong Street, Quang Trung Street and Do Dang Tuyen Street in the heart of Ai Nghia Town (known as ‘Ai Nghia crossroad’ by locals). A traffic light is here. After that, turn left to enter Do Dang Tuyen Street, keep riding straight, cross Giao Thuy Bridge and then go straight.

After that, follow DT610 road until seeing the 4-roads intersection near Duy Phu commune’s people’s committee building (Google maps location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z8De5AoctT58axQv5). A big sign showing the direction to My Son Sanctuary is seen here.

To go to My Son Sanctuary, turn left, keep going until see a traffic circle with ‘My Son Sanctuary’. Motorbike parking lot is just behind it. The fee is 5,000-10,000 VND/bike/time. From here, the distance to the ticket office, entrance of the site, shops, restaurants, coffee shops and toilets are short.

To go back to Hoi An from My Son, visitors can choose to ride on the same road or the ‘South Thu Bon River route’ as described below.

In Vinh Dien, 10km west of Hoi An, visitors can stop and visit Bang An Cham Tower, the last standing Hindu temple in the Thu Bon River delta. It’s built in the late 9th century and early 10th century, to worship Shiva God (same to My Son’s temples).

South Thu Bon River Route

This route is mainly based on DT610 (from Ai Nghia to My Son Sanctuary). It runs through towns and villages located in the south of the Thu Bon River, the largest river of the province. The direction is south, west and then south. Before Giao Thuy Bridge was inaugurated in 2017, this was the main route to My Son from Hoi An. It’s featured by tree rows planted along it.

After that, ride cross Cam Kim Bridge, keep going on the same road until see Duy Phuoc Bridge or Ba Ngan Bridge, and then cross it, keep going until the end of the road (Google maps location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2RaHSJorZTpjCiZe8).

To go to My Son, turn left to enter Truong Sa Street and then follow it (westwards) until seeing Highway 1A (QL1A) – the busiest highway in Vietnam. Next, turn right and then turn left to enter Hung Vuong Street (riders need to be careful in this crossroad because of high traffic and big container trucks).

Follow Hung Vuong Street, through small towns and villages, and then DT610 road until see the 3-roads intersection in Duy Hoa commune, near Giao Thuy Bridge (Google maps location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2RaHSJorZTpjCiZe8).

To go back to Hoi An from My Son, visitors can choose to ride on the same road or the ‘North Thu Bon River route’ as described above.

Between Hoi An and My Son, along the route, visitors can stop and visit these places: Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Tra Kieu (popularly known as ‘Tra Kieu Church’, one of the holiest sites for local Catholics, sitting on the top of a high hill in the heart of old Champa kingdom’s capital Tra Kieu or Simhapura) or Museum of Champa Sa Huynh Culture (a small museum with a collection of ancient relics made by Cham people and owners of Sa Huynh culture who lived in the area) or Old Brick Kiln in Duy Phuoc’s rice fields (a coffee shop here with a bamboo bridge).

Best Motorbike Route from Hoi An to My Son

The best motorbike route from Hoi An to My Son Sanctuary is ‘South Thu Bon River Route’ because of more diverse landscapes along the way. While visitors just see houses and small towns along the North Thu Bon River Route, this route offers rice fields, temples, small hills, vegetable gardens, a railway and historical/cultural attractions (such as Museum of Sa Huynh – Champa Culture, Marian Shrine of the Lady of Tra Kieu).
