Cam Thanh Commune
To the east of Hoi An Old Town, Cam Thanh Commune is one of the last rural areas in Hoi An city nowadays. Fortunately, it still preserves villages, rice fields, canals, prawn ponds and especially, a vast forest of water coconut (nipa palm). The most famous portion of this area is known as ‘Cam Thanh Coconut Village’ where visitors will have the chance to experience the basket boat ride through palm forests. Cam Kim Island
Located to the south of the Hoi An Old Town, Cam Kim Island is a rural island with peaceful villages, unchanged local lifestyle and traditional handicrafts. The most famous place here is Kim Bong Carpentry Village, home to skillful carpenters and boat builders. When to See Rice Fields in Hoi An?
To see fields with rice in Hoi An Vietnam, visitors need to go in rice seasons. Between seasons of rice, the fields are empty and by that, no rice to see.
Traditionally, there are 3 seasons of rice in the year: winter-spring season from 25th November to 5th April in the next year, spring-summer season from 10th April to 5th July, and the third season from 10th July to 30th October.
However, today there are only two seasons: the winter-spring season from 15th December to 30th April in the next year and the autumn-fall season from 20th May to 15th September. So, it means that visitors need to go to Hoi An during these periods if want to see fields with rice.
Furthermore, rice fields in Hoi An will be more stunning if visiting in the beginning or the end of every season. In the first weeks of the new season, fields will be flooded by water and look like mirrors, providing a good opportunity to take pictures. Japanese Merchant Tani Yajirobe Tomb
Located in the heart of rice fields near Tra Que Vegetable Village, the Tomb of Tani Yajirobe is one of the last historical sites about Japanese people in Hoi An. He is a merchant who went to Hoi An from Nagasaki of Japan to trade. When his home country closed and overseas Japanese people were requested to return, he still stayed back in the town because married to a local woman. After his death in 1647, his tomb was constructed in a field north of the town centre.
To visit the Tomb of Tani Yajirobe, visitors need to walk from Hai Ba Trung Street. It’s impossible to go by car or even motorbike/bicycle because the road leading to it crosses an irrigation canal.

The best sunrise/sunset in the year is in the dry season which lasts from February to the end of August. Tips to Visit Rice Fields in Hoi An
– During the dry season, from February to the end of August, visitors should bring sun cream, sun glasses, hat/cap, bottles of water, cash. If possible, come in the sunrise or sunset time, the experience is better. There are many photo opportunities in these times too.

How to Get to Hoi An’s Rice Fields
Walking
Many visitors like to walk to An Bang Beach from the town centre. Of course, Hai Ba Trung Street is the shortest and the easiest way to get there. Along this flat road, there are rice fields and water buffalos. If staying in other areas in Hoi An, rice fields are not too far from where people live, so we believe that they are still within walking distance (in case, you know where the rice field!).
Ride Bicycle/Motorbike
Sure, the best way to go to/through rice fields in Hoi An is riding the bicycle. With a slow pace, visitors will feel a sense of tranquility and peace. If possible, we suggest going on cement roads (instead of main roads) to avoid the traffic. By rice fields, there are coffee shops and restaurants where food and drink are served.
If want to go faster, let’s hire a motorbike and then explore the countryside of Hoi An. Motorbike riders can go to and see more rice fields and further places. Make sure that internet is available to use and open Google maps when needed.
Electric Car
Roads in rice fields at Hoi An are wide enough for small cars. For that reason, visitors can book one electric car in the town and then tell the driver to do to the nearest rice fields. The total fare depends on distance and number of passengers. One car can take 10-12 persons maximum.
Electric car is suitable for families with kids or groups of friends or even couples if do not want to cycle. We advise taking a car with doors, for safety reason (in Hoi An, it’s often yellow). The driver can recommend good coffee shops or restaurants with a rice field view because he is a local.
