What to Expect in Duy Hai Fish Market?
Near the estuary of Thu Bon River, the largest river in the region, Duy Hai Fish Market is bigger than any other fish markets in Hoi An. Before the dawn, hundreds of fishing boats will return to the mainland and bring tons of fishes and other kinds of seafood. Because of shallow water near the market, locals use a basket boat (small, round bamboo boat) to transfer the fishes from big boats to the beach. After that, family members carry them by the shoulder pole to nearby places to sell them. Buyers are mainly people who are in the restaurants, hotels and market sellers (they bring fishes to markets in the city to resell). The atmosphere is bustling. Besides locals, it’s possible to see visitors and photographers coming here to take photos or see local life.
To visit Duy Hai Fish Market, visitors just need to walk along the wharf.

Visit Duy Hai Fish Market before the sunrise to see the most types of fishes as possible. If come late, there are not so many fishes remaining.
After visiting Duy Hai Fish Market, we recommend going to Cam Thanh Coconut Village on the other side of the river. The highlight is doing a boat trip by basket boat through canals in the water coconut forest, watch ‘spinning boats’ and go crab fishing. Other things to do here are learning how to make Vietnamese foods in a cooking class, riding water buffalo, massage,…
