Cua Dai Beach (Hoi An) on Map
Name of Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An
Cua Dai Beach is named after ‘Cua Dai’, the estuary of Thu Bon River, the largest river in Quang Nam province. In Vietnamese language, Cua means ‘estuary’ and Dai means ‘large’ or ‘big’, therefore Cua Dai means ‘large/big estuary’. This is also a popular name of some other estuaries and bridges all over the country.
Cua Dai is also the name of a ward (where Cua Dai Beach, Cua Dai Harbour, Cua Dai Estuary are located), a road going from the Hoi An Central Park to Cua Dai Beach and a bridge across the Thu Bon River.
What is the Exact Cua Dai Beach Located?
In general, Cua Dai Beach is the beach in Cam An and Cua Dai wards of Hoi An city. It’s the southernmost beach on the 30-kilometers-long coastline stretching from foot of Son Tra Mountain (Monkey Mountain) to the estuary of Thu Bon River. This beach has both public and private sections.
The public section of Cua Dai Beach is by the park near the crossroad of Lac Long Quan Street, Au Co Street and Cua Dai Street. This is the main swimming spot too. The rest of the beach has limited access and is mostly for guests in seaside hotels/resorts.
Best Time to Visit Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An
The best time to visit Cua Dai Beach in the year is the dry season, from February to the end of August. In this period, the weather is beautiful, with lots of sun and no rain. For that reason, it’s a perfect time to sightsee, sunbathe, go swimming, take pictures, and play water sports.
The worst time of the year to visit Cua Dai Beach is the rainy season, from September to January. The weather in these months is mostly rainy and cloudy, so it’s not really great to head over to the beach. Between October and December/January, typhoons may hit the area, causing very strong winds and waves as well as heavy rains and floods.
In December and January, generally it often rains. The heaviest rain will be in late December and early January (around Christmas, New year holidays). In late January, visitors can expect dry or sunny days to visit Cua Dai Beach. Check the weather forecast to choose the best days or hours!
Things to See & Do in Cua Dai Beach Hoi An Vietnam
Going swimming in Cua Dai Beach
Both locals and tourists go swimming at Cua Dai Beach. Its main (public) swimming spot is by the park at the end of Cua Dai Road. This beach has everything that swimmers need: the water is clean, unpolluted and the waves are gentle or strong enough. Although damaged by erosion many years ago, it has been safe right now thanks to efforts from the government. A dike with large sand bags was constructed in the sea, protecting the shore and venues on the beachfront. The water between it and the shore, looking like a pool, is not deep and free from dangers. If going with kids, parents can give them time to swim and play. Lifevest and float are available for rent at Cua Dai Beach.
Around the beach’s entrance (the park), there’re a couple of stores selling swimwear for all ages, glasses, and sun cream. After going swimming, visitors can go to the restaurant they paid for food (not drinks) to use the washroom for free. If don’t eat anywhere, go to spots behind seaside restaurants, and pay for fresh water showering (about 5-10,000 VND/person).
When coming to the beach and don’t see any local people in the water, please don’t go swimming. They know the beach and the weather ưell.
Those who want to sunbathe in Cua Dai Beach, have many spaces on the strand. Here, there are many sun beds and loungers to rent (if eat food at the owner’s restaurant, it will be a free service) and then relax in the sun. The fee is around 100,000 VND for 2 hours maximum. If looking for somewhere without many people, should go northwards from the main swimming spot. Over there, no restaurants and bars will be seen, so it’s needed to buy food and drink before visiting.
Sightseeing & Taking Photo in Cua Dai Beach
Cua Dai Beach is part of one of the most beautiful coastlines in Vietnam. Here, visitors will see a non-stop and clean stretch of white sand by the blue sea. On the left hand side, there are Son Tra Mountain or Monkey Mountain (rising up to a height of 700 meters), high-rise buildings by My Khe Beach and the Marble Mountains (a group of five rocky hills), two famous mountains in Da Nang. On the right hand side, there are islands of Cham Islands, a national marine park and Unesco world biosphere reserve that is well known for its stunning diving experience. In the back, it’s possible to see lots of coconut trees and sea pines as well as thatched-roof venues under their shade. No matter dry or rainy season, this beach is still great to visit and enjoy beautiful natural scenery and eat or drink with a view. Why not stroll along it barefoot?
Water Sports in Cua Dai Beach
Because the beach restoration project is still on-going, there are no water sports in the Cua Dai Beach area at the present. More chances will be seen in nearby beaches An Bang Beach and Tan Thanh Beach.
During the dry season (from February to September), when the sea is calm, visitors are able to reach nearby Cham Islands for underwater activities. Most popular activities are snorkeling, diving and sea walking. This offshore archipelago is well known for a wealth of marine species and corals as well as beautiful white-sandy beaches and fresh seafood. It’s designated as a national marine park of Vietnam and a world biosphere reserve by Unesco. Day tours and speed boats depart from Cua Dai Harbour, at the end of Au Co Road (by the estuary). It’s 3,5 kilometers south of Cua Dai Beach’s main swimming spot. See more information & details
Watch Sunrise vs Sunset in Cua Dai Beach
Cua Dai Beach is a good spot to watch and photograph sunrise or sunset in Hoi An. The sunrise is better somehow because the beach looks to the East. If possible, visitors should book an accommodation in the village behind this beach. From the city centre of Hoi An, the distance won’t be too long, so just need to wake up earlier a little bit (can cycle, ride motorbike or take a taxi to get there). While the sun is rising, there are many locals on the beach to cool down, sleep, do exercise, play sports, go swimming, do yoga or chat with friends. Natural scenery during the sunrise in Cua Dai Beach is mind-blowing, making your efforts worth it and your time here not wasty.

How to Get to Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An
An Bang Beach is in Cam An ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, Vietnam. It lies at the end of Hai Ba Trung street and only 3km away from the Hoi An Ancient Town.
There is no public transportation from Hoi An city centre to An Bang Beach, therefore visitors will need to walk or use private vehicles.
Many travelers love walking to An Bang Beach from Hoi An centre/downtown/old town because the distance isn’t too long. It’s very easy to get there! Visitors just need to go along Hai Ba Trung St until its end. It’s flat and runs through a lovely piece of Hoi An’s countryside.
Cycling to An Bang Beach is also convenient and easy. If there is no free bicycle to use or hire in the hotel, visitors can hire one bike at a cheap price, in shops on main streets. One day rental is about 50,000 VND. Again, the quickest road to get to An Bang Beach from Hoi An centre/downtown/old town is Hai Ba Trung street. This road has one separate lane for cycling and walking on each side. En route, it’s possible to see rice fields, farmers, water buffalos, flocks of birds, and rivers. Parking at the entrance of An Bang Beach, with a price of 5,000 VND/bicycle.
If want to reach the beach faster, let’s use a motorbike/scooter. One day rental for now is from 100,000 to 200,000 VND, depending on the type of bike. Parking lots are around the main entrance (locals will raise hands to say hi and tell people to park in their own place) and the fee is 5,000-10,000 VND.
