Name Origin of Chong Beach on Cham Islands

Bai Chong means ‘Husband Beach’ in Vietnamese. This name originates from a story of local people living on Cham Islands. Today, on Chong Beach, visitors will see a giant rock which looks like a man (standing and waiting his wife).

In the story, a beautiful girl falls in love with a man who lives in the same village on Cham Island. In their wedding, the God of Sea appears, steals her and then disappears in the sea. He said that if someone can find him, he will give her back. For that reason, the husband leaves the family and then starts his journey to look for his wife. However, year after year, all of his efforts fail. One day, he becomes a rock by the beach.

Best Time to Visit Chong Beach on Cham Islands

The best time to visit the Chong Beach in Cham Islands in the year is the dry season, from February to the end of August. In this period, the weather is beautiful, with lots of sun and no rain. For that reason, it’s a perfect time to sightsee, sunbathe, go swimming, take pictures, and play water sports.

The worst time of the year to visit Chong Beach in Cham Islands is the rainy season, from September to January. The weather in these months is mostly rainy and cloudy, so it’s not really great to head over to the beach. Between October and December/January, typhoons may hit the area, causing very strong winds and waves as well as heavy rains and floods.

In December and January, generally it often rains. The heaviest rain will be in late December and early January (around Christmas, New year holidays). What to Expect in Bai Chong Beach on Cham Island?

Bai Chong Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Cham Island, Hoi An. It has a 500-meters-long stretch of white, fine sand with blue, unpolluted water on one side (south) and lush coconut trees on the other side (north). It’s also surrounded by mountains and hills covered by green forests. On a sunny day, this beach provides an extremely fresh and cool breeze, and the view to other islands of the archipelago. If want to take photos, go towards the west end of the beach because not so many people are there.

In Bai Chong Beach, visitors will not see any constructions because it’s nearly-isolated. Sure, it’s free from noise, pollution and overtourism. At its ends, the gray granite rocks are very stunning, including the giant Stone Turtle (a rock with turtle shape). This is a must go spot for sightseeing and taking pictures. It’s linked to a legend of local fishermen (see details above).

Compared to Bai Ong Beach, Bai Chong Beach is less touristy because it’s less popular for tours and further from the main village Bai Lang. Those who like relaxing on a peaceful beach, should choose the tour in which Bai Chong is a stop.

In Bai Chong Beach, visitors can go swimming without risk because the water is clean, not deep and free for sharks. Free fresh water to take a shower is available in nearby restaurants. During the dry season (the best time of the year), water sports may be available to participate. Floats are always easy to hire on the beach, for your children.

If do no have your own swimsuit or swimwear, visitors can buy in shops at Cua Dai Port before departure. Unless, have one more chance in the main village near the wharf where speedboats dock. The prices are not too expensive.

In Bai Chong Beach, choices for swimsuit/swimwear are limited. So, we recommend going shopping in Cua Dai Port or in the main village Bai Lang, before reaching it.

In the itinerary of some daily tours, Bai Chong Beach is the main base where visitors can go snorkeling if want, relax, go swimming, and have lunch. If visit on your own or lunch are excluded, it’s still easy to look for a restaurant here. Both a set menu (similar to the meal tour visitors have, with seafood, steamed rice, vegetables) and seafood dishes cooked by request, are served. The price won’t be too expensive.
