What to Expect in Kon Tum Wooden Church?
Located in the center of a 700m2 garden, Kon Tum Wooden Church is constructed from 1913 to 1918 by Anthoshorea roxburghii, a native wood in mainland Southeast Asia (which includes Vietnam). That’s why this building was called ‘wooden church’ by local people. It’s famous for a special architecture that is mixed between Roman designs and traditional decorative elements in Bahnar people’s art. The highlight is the bell tower rising to a height of nearly 20 meters from the ground.
Nowadays, Kon Tum Wooden Church plays its role as the cathedral of Kon Tum diocese. In which, there are 23,600 laity, including over 18,000 tribers from different ethnics in the area. The diocese was established in 1932, and spilt from Quy Nhon diocese.
