This private day tour shows you highlights of Hoi An, the world heritage town to the south of Da Nang. In the morning, embark a basket boat ride through natural coconut forests, winding canals, fishing villages and watch ‘spinning boats’ performance. Next, stop at a rice field cafe to taste Vietnamese coffee and take some photos. Before lunch with specialty food at a local family restaurant, visit a village which has 500-years-long tradition of pottery making. In the afternoon, explore Hoi An’s Old Town and sightsee the most iconic cultural and historical landmarks here. From 15th to 19th centuries, it’s the most active trading port in the region.

Hoi An Coconut Village

Located near the estuary of Thu Bon River, Cam Thanh Coconut Village is known for many thatched roof houses, fishing harbors and a vast water coconut (nipa palm) forest. See more details

Here are things to see/do in Cam Thanh Coconut Village:

– Van Lang Fishing Village: see an authentic central Vietnam’s fishing village with thatched-roof bamboo house and embark the basket boat ride to discover the water coconut forest.

– Small canals inside Bay Mau Coconut Forest, a protected mangrove forest and former hiding place of Vietcong guerillas in the war.

– Watch a live performance of boat spinning by a local man and then have the chance to join him if want to have an adventurous experience.

– Watch how the locals catch fish by traditional net, the way they do every single day in the rivers to earn for living. Have the chance to try your hand if want to be a fisherman.

– Go crab fishing: follow the instruction from locals to catch small brackish crabs which run fast and hide well. Release crabs right before exit the coconut forest because won’t eat.

– Learn how to row the basket boat, a fishing vessel unique to central coast of Vietnam.

Rice field cafe

Visit a beautiful cafe by the rice fields to relax, try Vietnamese traditional coffee, enjoy the view and peaceful atmosphere as well as take photos. ‘Rice field cafe’ is one of the most popular Instagram places in Hoi An.

Banh xeo: a savory, crispy Vietnamese pancake made from rice flour and turmeric, folded around a filling of shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts, and traditionally served with fresh herbs and dipping sauce. Hoi An style grilled pork skewer: a beloved street food featuring thin strips of pork marinated in spices like lemongrass and five-spice powder, which are then charcoal-grilled and traditionally served with rice paper, fresh herbs, and a savory peanut-based dipping sauce for rolling. Nem lui (also grilled pork skewer): a Central Vietnamese specialty consisting of seasoned ground pork molded around a lemongrass stalk or bamboo skewer, grilled over charcoal, and traditionally eaten by wrapping it in rice paper with fresh herbs and dipping into a rich peanut sauce.

Hoi An Ancient Town

Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. In 1999, it’s honored to be a world heritage site. This town is famous for pretty narrow streets with yellow-wall houses, colorful lanterns and many tailor shops. It’s also one of the most photographed places in Vietnam. See more details

In Hoi An, you will see these places:

– Japanese Covered Bridge: the symbol of Hoi An. This wooden building was constructed in the 17th century by Japanese people. Today, it’s also called ‘Pagoda bridge’ because it has a small temple where the locals worship a Taoist god. See more details

– Tan Ky Old House: the most typical old wooden house in Hoi An. Its main entrance is on a main street and its back is by the river (or quay). The family who owns it, sold the silk and cinnamon in the past and the wealth of the family is reflected by premium furniture, collections of antiquities and decorative items. In the last hall, visitors can see the water levels of the floods by year. See more details

– Fujian Assembly Hall: the largest and the most richly-decorated assembly hall in Hoi An. Here, the Fujian Chinese people worship Thien Hau Goddess (Goddess of Sea) and other deities. This place is one of the most photographed historical site in town. See more details

– Hoi An Central Market: the oldest and the biggest market in Hoi An. Here, visitors will see a food hall where local women sell different dishes as well as a huge variety of local products. See more details

– Traditional handicrafts workshop: meet a local woman wearing traditional ao dai dress and listen to her introduction about Hoi An’s local handicrafts (silk making, lantern making, garment making, silk painting making, etc)

Return & Drop off

To meet our driver again, you need to exit the pedestrian area of Hoi An’s Old Town first. In Da Nang, we’ll drop off in the hotel within city center or My Khe Beach area or Non Nuoc Beach area.

What to bring/wear

Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes, hat/cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain poncho/jacket (from October to January), cash.

To visit historical places, visitors should wear respectively. In other words, wear long pants to cover the upper knees, wear the shirt to cover shoulders, navel and armpits.
