What to Expect in Da Nang Flower Market?

The Da Nang Flower Market refers to the flower market before the Lunar New Year (Tet) in Da Nang city. It’ll be the biggest flower market of the year, where buyers and visitors have the chance to all typical flowers and plants used during the festival. For that reason, besides buying something, lots of people come here to soak in the festive atmosphere, take commemorative photos, and seek moments of peace and hope for a prosperous year ahead.

It’s usually crowded at Da Nang’s New Year Flower Market. Therefore, visitors need to keep personal items carefully to avoid pickpockets (like phone, wallet, jewelry) and and remember to bring cash and bargain politely as Tet approaches.

Lunar New Year Flower Market in Da Nang often opens from the 20th day of the last lunar month until the new year eve, from morning to evening. Generally, it lasts about 10 days. Not only in the city downtown, there is a flower market established in the administrative center of Lien Chieu and Hoa Vang districts as well.

At the flower market, visitors will see peach blossoms (hoa dao, believed to ward off evil spirits and bring the vibrant energy, renewal, and peace of springtime into the home), yellow apricot blossoms (hoa mai, symbolize wealth, prosperity, and the “five blessings” of happiness, longevity, luck, beauty, and peace), kumquat trees (cay quat, represents a “bountiful harvest” and family unity, with its golden fruits symbolizing wealth and its lush green leaves representing health and longevity), chrysanthemums (hoa cuc, symbolizes longevity, filial piety, and a peaceful life, and is frequently placed on ancestral altars to show respect and gratitude to one’s forebears), marigolds (hoa van tho), orchids (hoa lan), gerberas (hoa dong tien), lilies (hoa ly), cockscomb (hoa mao ga), poinsettias (hoa trang nguyen), gladiolus (hoa lay on), carnations (hoa cam chuong), peonies (hoa mau don), paperflowers (hoa giay), hydrangeas (hoa cam tu cau), sunflowers (hoa huong duong), narcissus (hoa thuy tien), dahlias (hoa thuoc duoc), fig trees (cay sung), and lucky bamboo (cay phat loc). Furthermore, visitors can find a vast variety of bonsai, ranging from traditionally trained blossoms to unique fruit-bearing trees like miniature kumquat, papaya, and starfruit shaped to symbolize prosperity and a long-lasting family legacy.

If come to Da Nang during Tet (Lunar New Year), we recommend visiting the Da Nang Flower Street (Bach Dang Street between the Ha River Bridge and the Dragon Bridge). Here, experience the breathtaking riverside floral displays and intricate mascots representing the zodiac animal, capture stunning photo spots with iconic bridges like the Dragon Bridge as a backdrop, and immerse themselves in the vibrant festive atmosphere filled with street performances and traditional cultural activities that bring the spirit of Tet to life.
