This half-day tour shows you Tra Que Vegetable Village, a rural village with long tradition of vegetable and herb growing. Here, local farmers still use traditional ways to cultivate a variety of vegetables that are honored to be Vietnam’s national intangible heritage. Herbs from here are thought to have the best qualities and are used to prepare local specialty dishes of Hoi An. Meet a farmer, learn how to grow baby herbs from him/her and do it yourself. Next, experience a ride on water buffalo in rice fields and learn how to make a traditional foldable lantern at local artisan house. Lunch is served with authentic Vietnamese dishes in a well-known alley restaurant.

Pick up time is 8:00 AM or 1:00 PM (local time).

Our guide will see you at your hotel in Hoi An city center (Minh An, Cam Pho, Son Phong, Tan An, Cam Chau wards).

Cycle to Tra Que Vegetable Village

Ride the bicycle through the town and the peaceful countryside with rice fields to Tra Que Vegetable Village. Have the chance to see water buffalos soaking in the mud or swamps.

Located on a fertile island, Tra Que Vegetable Village is the biggest fresh vegetable producer in Hoi An. Since the 16th century, local people here have still been using traditional farming techniques to grow vegetables and herbs. See more information & details

Here are activities that you will do in Tra Que Vegetable Village:

– Visit vegetable gardens and learn about different types of herb from our guide

– Meet a real farmer and learn how to grow young vegetables from him/her

– Have an experience of watering the vegetables by a shoulder pole and buckets, have the opportunities to take fun pictures

– Try a refreshing basil seed drink, the specialty beverage of the village

Water buffalo riding

Water buffalo riding is a popular and unique eco-tourism experience offered in the peaceful countryside surrounding Hoi An, particularly in villages like Tra Que. Guided by local farmers, visitors get the chance to ride a water buffalo through picturesque rice paddy fields, offering a fun glimpse into traditional Vietnamese agricultural life. See more details

Lantern making class

Hoi An’s lantern-making classes offer a delightful and authentic cultural immersion, allowing visitors to learn the traditional craft synonymous with the “City of Lanterns.” Under the guidance of local artisans, participants get a hands-on experience, selecting colorful silk fabric and bamboo to construct their own foldable lantern in various traditional shapes. This rewarding workshop provides a creative activity and results in a unique, handmade souvenir to take home as a beautiful memory of Vietnam. See more details

Have lunch

You will have lunch at a local restaurant lying inside a small alley. Food options include Banh xeo (crispy rice pancake), Nem lui and Thit xien nuong (grilled pork skewers), fried spring rolls, etc. Learn how to eat them like a local.

Return & Drop off

Cycle back to the hotel in Hoi An to end the tour.
