Best Time to Visit Bai Nam (South Beach)

The best time to visit Bai Nam (South Beach) in the year is the dry season, from February to the end of August. In this period, the weather is beautiful, with lots of sun and no rain. For that reason, it’s a perfect time to sightsee, sunbathe, go swimming, take pictures, and play water sports.

The worst time of the year to visit Bai Nam (South Beach) is the rainy season, from September to January. The weather in these months is mostly rainy and cloudy, so it’s not really great to head over to the beach. Between October and December/January, typhoons may hit the area, causing very strong winds and waves as well as heavy rains and floods.

In December and January, generally it often rains. The heaviest rain will be in late December and early January (around Christmas, New year holidays). In late January, visitors can expect dry or sunny days to visit Bai Nam (South Beach). Check the weather forecast to choose the best days or hours!

What to Expect in Bai Nam (South Beach) Da Nang?

Bai Nam or South Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Da Nang Vietnam. It lies on Son Tra Peninsula (aka Monkey Mountain), near the giant Lady Buddha statue, between coastal road Hoang Sa and the sea. This beach has a serene nearly-600-meters-long stretch of sand, and no crowds during the best season.

Sometimes, visitors will need a pay a small money to access Bai Nam (South Beach), around 10,000 VND per person.

The view from Bai Nam (South Beach) is excellent. In the front, there is blue and calm water dotted with fishing boats and Cham islands, a group of 7 islands with diverse marine life. In sunny months, the wave will be small. To the left, it’s possible to see high-rise hotel buildings along the beachfront of Da Nang city (My Khe Beach), and nearer, the massive statue of Lady Buddha (Goddess of Mercy) standing on the hilltop. She was constructed from 2004 to 2010, with a height of 67 meters. She overlooks the city and the sea to protect local residents from natural disasters, especially storms. No surprise, this is one of the tallest Buddha statues in Southeast Asia. Next to here, that’s a tall multi-storied tower (the Buddha Relic tower of Linh Ung Son Tra Pagoda). To the right, there is a cape jutting out into the sea (known as ‘Gun Cape’ because it looks like a gun).

Going swimming in Bai Nam (South Beach) is safe in the dry season (February to September). The water here is warm, clear, and unpolluted because it’s far from the city and has no constructions. The sand here is white, soft and also clean. Because of no shops, visitors must bring swimsuit/swimwear before visiting this place. Fresh water to take a shower is available in a nearby building.

Water sports and activities rarely happen in Bai Nam (South Beach). We recommend going to My Khe Beach or My An Beach instead.

In the end of the day, Bai Nam (South Beach) is one of the best spots to watch sunset in Da Nang. About the sunrise, you should go to the east coast of the peninsula (this beach lies on the south coast).

Commonly, there is no restaurant, bar or any other F&B services in Bai Nam (South Beach) because it’s not a popular swimming beach. After visiting, people often go to nearby Bai Rang Beach or return to the city. The nearest restaurants from this beach line the beachfront of Man Thai or Tho Quang.
