Tips to Visit Marble Mountains with Kids
Here are things that parents should know before visiting Marble Mountains with kids:
– Go to the Marble Mountains in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest period of the day. Kids will feel tired due to strong heat in the midday.
– Visit Marble Mountains when the rain stops if come to Da Nang in the rainy season. When it’s raining, the trails is wet and slippery.
– Parents need to prepare good footwear for kids before going to Marble Mountains. In the rainy season, rain poncho or umbrella are must have items. If possible, kids should wear long pants and shirts to be respectful to the Buddha.
– Ticket price is free for kids under 6, and it will be 40,000 VND if your kids are above 6. Parents don’t have to prepare the passport to prove the year of birth for their kids. However, preparing a photo is still necessary. See more information about Marble Mountains ticket
– The Marble Mountains is not a good place to bring stroller because there is only stairs and no ramps at all to go from a place to the other.
– If visit without guide, see our recommended Marble Mountains self guided itineraries
– Use the elevator to skip the steep stairs to Linh Ung Pagoda, a main sight in Marble Mountains. From the top of this elevator to the pagoda, it’s possible to see good views, tower tombs of the monks, and Xa Loi Tower. From the tower down to the pagoda, there are 15-20 steps. It’s not a big challenge for kids and if bring a stroller, parents need to put it at the top of the staircase before walking downstairs to visit the temple. It’s easy for kids to go to Tang Chon Cave (the cave behind Linh Ung Pagoda). More information about the elevator
– From Linh Ung Pagoda to other sights (Huyen Khong Cave, Tam Thai Pagoda,…), it’s needed to climb many stairs. Chairs to sit down and take a break will be seen. If need a cold drink, there are several stalls on the way, where people sell bottled water, fresh coconut, soft drink, canned beverages, juices,… The price is from 20,000 VND per can/bottle. One stall is located in the front of entrance of Van Thong Cave and one stall lies near the crossroad of the path to Huyen Khong Cave and the path to Tam Thai Pagoda.
– We don’t recommend visiting Van Thong Cave (which lies half day from Linh Ung Pagoda to Tam Thai Pagoda/Huyen Khong Cave). Firstly, kids have to climb big steps to see the first chamber and it’s not much to see. Climbing to the second chamber and especially, climbing and crawling into a small hole to the Heaven Gate after that, are too dangerous. No ropes are provided, steps are very small, and metal rings to hold up, are not too firmly attached to the cave wall, creating some potential risks.
– Heaven Gate and Thuong Thai Peak, or generally the peaks, are not suitable for kids because the stairs are too steep.
– Tam Thai Pagoda (one of the most important Buddhist temples) and Huyen Khong Cave (the biggest cave), are okay to visit with kids. If raining, it’s needed to watch your steps because steps and cave floors are very slippery. The path to Tam Thai Pagoda is flat.
– To avoid steep stairs from Tam Thai Pagoda down to the plain, we recommend walking back to the elevator and use it to get down. Like the way up, ticket price is still 15,000 VND per person.
– Am Phu Cave, the big cave at the foot of Marble Mountains, is friendly to kids because there are not too many stairs. However, parents should avoid the steep staircase to the top of the cave. To sightsee, parents need to buy a ticket for kids above 6 (20,000 VND per person) and it’s still free of charge for kids under 6.
– Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village (around the foot of Marble Mountains) is good for kids because they can see lots of marble sculptures varying in size, shape, and color. Shops around this village welcome all visitors.
– In the top zone of Marble Mountains, there is only one toilet (near Tam Thai Pagoda/Huyen Khong Cave). At base of the mountain, please walk to the toilet near entrance of Am Phu Cave.
