History & Mural Paintings in Man Thai Mural Village

About the exact location, Man Thai Mural Village is in alleyways next to the Whale Temple of Man Thai Fishing Village at 2-4 Vo Nguyen Giap Street. It’s close to the crossroads of Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Nguyen Huu Chuong Street, and Man Thai Beach, a lesser known beach with a view to Vietnam’s tallest Lady Buddha statue.

The Man Thai Mural Village was opened on 29th August 2022. It’s the second fresco village project in Da Nang, after the Da Nang Fresco Village in alleys of Nguyen Van Linh Street within the city downtown (opened in 2018). Local authorities hope that this place will become a tourist attraction and by that, local families and venues (hotels, restaurants, etc) in nearby areas will have better business performance. It’s also a place where local life is introduced and honored.

At Man Thai Mural Village, there are about 30 mural paintings drawn on the walls of local houses, with a total area of 1,200 m2 and a total length of 400 meters. Painters in the Da Nang Association of Painters spent more than 4 months sketching and then completed them. They depict popular marine species (turtle, squid, octopus, anchovy fish, flying fish, tuna, whale which locals worship, aggregation of fish) and scenes in daily life of local fishermen, such as building and repairing wooden boats, setting sail, catching fishes in the sea, collecting seafood, rowing basket boat, being happy with a bumper harvest of fish, sun drying seafood in the sun, making fish sauce, the beach with beach morning glory plant, etc. All of them are perfect backgrounds for beautiful and meaningful photos. Visitors those look for something new for personal social media feed, Man Thai Mural Village is highly recommended to go.

To see/photograph paintings, we recommend walking along the alley on the left side of the Whale Temple first and then turn left when seeing the first crossroad. Walk along the alleyway until see the next crossroad and then turn left, walk along the wall until the end (the Whale Temple again).
