Motorbike Rental in Da Nang & Hoi An

Vietnam is one of the countries which have the most motorcycles per capita. It seems that nearly all adults here have at least one. For that reason, it’s easy to hire a motorbike in Vietnam and the price won’t be high either.

Visitors can ask for rental service at the hotel first (almost all hotels in Da Nang and Hoi An have!). If not available or fully booked, it’s needed to contact some local businesses online to get one bike. The price for a semi-automatic motorcycle is usually cheaper than automatic motorbikes. It fluctuates from 150,000 to 300,000 VND for 1 day (morning to evening). To ride to Ba Na Hills, both of these types are fine and safe. Please choose a new or well-maintained bike. Having a test is widely accepted, so let’s do it to check how smooth it goes before hit the road.

All people sitting on the motorbike must wear a helmet in Vietnamese traffic law. Each person will have one helmet at the place they hire a motorbike. Meaning that it’s free. In some places, complimentary rain ponchos are provided (but can not take it when returning the bike!).

Visitors usually have to fill up motorbikes at own expense. However, gasoline in Vietnam is not expensive (about 1 USD for one liter). Petrol stations are along major roads leading into/out the city, especially at crossroads. On the way from Da Nang to Hoi An, there are many gasoline stations to stop.

Ba Na Hills Entrance Location & Address

To find out the quickest/easiest route to Ba Na Hills, visitors must know its entrance location. This ‘Disneyland of Vietnam’ is located in An Son village, Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang. It’s some 30 kilometers from Da Nang city downtown and around 40 kilometers from Hoi An.

Ba Na Hills main entrance is at the end of Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road, by the Dream Stream. Cable car stations are not far from here.

Can I Drive Up to Ba Na Hills?

Ba Na Hills is on the top of Nui Chua Mountain, at an elevation of around 1,400 meters. Since colonial time (20th century), a 15-kilometers-long road has existed to allow cars and people to go up there. However, it’s closed now and just opened for vehicles carrying building materials, goods and machines (with duty from the owning company Sun Group). Meaning that tourists can not go/drive up to Ba Na Hills by this road.

Instead, to reach Ba Na Hills, everybody needs to take the cable car. Seriously, traveling by the cable car brings a safer and better experience. The ‘old road’ is still seen below the cable car from the Hoi An Station to the Golden Hands Bridge. It’s narrow, winding, steep, slippery in the rain and dangerous in the midst (happens all day during the rainy season).

In 2009, the first cable car at Ba Na Hills was inaugurated and opened to visitors. It’s the longest cable car in the world (over 5 kilometers in length) at that time. Today, the cable car is one of the most recognizable things about the tourist area. See more information & details

Motorbike Routes from Da Nang to Ba Na Hills

‘North Airport’ Route

This route is to the north of the Da Nang International Airport. In brief, it’s formed by Dien Bien Phu Street, Ton Duc Thang Street, Hoang Van Thai Street and Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road. It’s the best route for those who stay in the hotel near the Han River Bridge, the Dragon Bridge, My Khe Beach, Pham Van Dong (Phuoc My) Beach. The main directions are west and southwest. En route, it’s possible to glimpse some city landmarks and scenic landscapes.

Firstly, from the above-mentioned areas, it’s needed to go to Dien Bien Phu Street (a 8-lanes road with tall palms on the median strip) and then follow it (westwards) to Nga Ba Hue Overpass, past Nhu Mother Monument (a woman statue standing at a roundabout). At the overpass, please ride straight ahead to the highest level (the level has an arch suspension bridge!) and go above all intersections.

After crossing the overpass, visitors will enter Ton Duc Thang Street and then follow it (westwards) until the crossroad with Hoang Van Thai Street (a traffic light here!). When the light is green, turn right to enter Hoang Van Thai Street. When riding across the street, please observe carefully because traffic is often high.

Go along Hoang Van Thai Street and then Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road until the end. Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road is one of the widest, the lowest traffic and the most beautiful roads in the city. It has 3 lanes each side with Lane 1 (outermost) exclusive for bikes, Lane 2 (middle) for all vehicles and Lane 3 (innermost) exclusive for car/bus. Additionally, this road also has signs in both Vietnamese and English and a smooth surface. However, there are some potentially dangerous crossroads still seen on it, especially the ones with Highway 1A (a traffic light here) and the provincial road DT602. Therefore, riders should go slower and observe carefully when crossing them. Between the morning and the noon, the way from the city to Ba Na Hills is busy and in the afternoon, it’s opposite.

Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road goes across an uninhabited midland with low hills, cajeput forests, streams and reservoirs. Plus trees and flowers grown along its side, it becomes the most beautiful road in Da Nang. On the way, on a sunny day, visitors can see Ba Na Mountain which soars from the surrounding area (in the front, to the left). This mountain rises to an elevation of 1,487 meters, making it highest in the city and Ba Na Hills sits atop it. On many days of the year, its summit is covered by clouds. The mountain is home to a richness of flora and fauna species. That’s why it’s designated as a national-level nature reserve.

When see the roundabout near the entrance of Ba Na Hills Golf Course, ride the bike on the road by the mountainside, uphill and downhill until seeing the security man. They will tell you to slow down and show the direction to the parking lot. On the way, it’s easy to observe the main entrance and cable car stations.

Keep riding on Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road until the end (can see the entrance building complex from afar). Security men will tell riders to go slower and the right direction to the parking lot. It’s free and the service hours are from 7 am to 10 pm. Bike owner will receive a card and when return, must show it to verify the ownership. If lost, it takes time to check the camera or do something else to make sure that it is yours. Keep the card carefully!

At night, Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road is bright due to thousands of lamps, so riding back to the city from Ba Na Hills is totally safe. Do not worry!

‘South Airport’ Route

This route is to the south of the Da Nang International Airport. In brief, it’s formed by Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, Truong Son Street, Highway 1A and Ba Na – Suoi Mo Street. It’s the best route for those who stay in the hotel near the Tran Thi Ly Bridge, the south part of My Khe Beach, Non Nuoc Beach or even the Marble Mountains. The main directions are west and northwest. En route, it’s possible to glimpse at some city landmarks and scenic landscapes.

From anywhere, visitors need to go to Cach Mang Thang 8 Street first. Its ‘starting point’ is the crossroad at the west end of Tien Son Bridge (crossroad of Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, 2 Thang 9 Street and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street). After that, follow this road until Hoa Cam Overpass. Here, ride straight away over the bridge to cross it and then keep going until see Tuy Loan Intersection (a large intersection). When the light is green, follow the ramp on the right side to Highway QL1A.

Go along Highway QL1A (northwards), cross rice fields until you see the crossroad with Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road. A traffic light is seen here. Turn left to enter Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road. This is one of the widest, the lowest traffic and the most beautiful roads in the area.

Keep riding on Ba Na – Suoi Mo Road until the end (can see the entrance building complex from afar). Security men will tell riders to go slower and the right direction to the parking lot. It’s free and the service hours are from 7 am to 10 pm. Bike owner will receive a card and when they return, must show it to verify the ownership. If lost, it takes time to check the camera or do something else to make sure that it is yours. Keep the card carefully!
