This walking tour shows you the most typical local foods in Hoi An Old Town, the historical trading port dating from the 15th century. Our guide will take you to different places, from street vendors, vibrant night markets to local restaurants that are known only by local residents. For each tasting, will know about its name origin and meaning, ingredients and how to make it, how to eat it like the locals, stories of the family or vendor who makes it, cultural significances behind the bite, own experiences of the guide, and more. Enjoy a sampan boat ride on the Hoai River to watch the sparkling townscape and release the lanterns.

Hoi An Old Town Food Tour

As the oldest part of Hoi An, the Old Town boasts of many dishes that are not found anywhere else in the country. Here, visitors will see the cuisines from different populations (Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, French, etc), reflecting the town’s history as an international trading port.

During Hoi An Old Town walking food tour, you will try these dishes:

– Hoi An grilled pork: visit a pavement eatery where you can see how the locals make this delicious food and then try it. A set of this dish includes grilled pork skewers, fresh rice paper, dry rice paper, raw vegetables and herbs, and local style dipping sauce. See more details

– Black sesame soup: visit the house of an old man who was honored to be ‘pudding master’ because he made and sold this special soup for more than 50 years.  Banh mi: visit one of the most famous restaurants making and selling this specialty food that is honored to be ‘Banh Mi Queen’ because of delicious sandwiches. Hoi An style banh mi has differences to other variations in Vietnam. It’s first invented in the colonial period when French introduced their baguette into the country. See more details

– Banh beo: try steamed rice dumplings at a local’s favorite eatery. It’s served with pork sausage, fermented pork and fish sauce. See more details

– Banh bot loc: try tapioca dumplings with pork and shrimp filling and fish sauce at a local favorite’s eatery. See more details

 Herbal tea: visit the only store in Hoi An where a family sells the most special local herbal tea/drink. It’s made of local herbs and Chinese medicine. See more details

– Rice paper pizza: visit a local street vendor and watch how the owner makes this local favorite’s snack. It’s made by rice paper, chopped spring onion, crispy potato, fried shallot and chili/tomato sauce. See more details

In this tour, you will visit Ba Le Well, a well constructed in the 10th century. It still produces the fresh water today and the locals use it to make many specialty dishes such as Cao Lau noodles. See more details

Lantern Boat Ride on Hoai River

Go on a leisurely boat ride on Hoai River which runs through the heart of Hoi An Ancient Town. During it, visitors enjoy watching a sparkling and colorful townscape as well as take beautiful photos. Visit the biggest night market in Hoi An. Here, local people sell a variety of street food and souvenirs, making it a paradise for food lovers and shopaholics. The tour ends

After the dinner, visitors can return to the riverside area to enjoy the nightlife or exit the pedestrian zone to take a taxi/electric car to go back the hotel.
