What to Expect in Han River Promenade in Da Nang?
Han River Promenade is the most beautiful public walk along the waterfront of the Han River in Da Nang city center. It’s nearly 6 kilometers long, stretching from Thuan Phuoc Bridge in the north to Tran Thi Ly Bridge in the south, along the west bank of the river. It lies between Bach Dang Street (west), the most charming road in the city and Han River (east).
The best part of Han River Promenade is between the Han River Bridge and the Dragon Bridge. It’s wide, paved by tiles, decorated by different plants and flowers as well as beautifully-carved marble sculptures produced in Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village (still in Da Nang city). From here, if look towards the north, it’s easy to see the Han River Bridge (a swing bridge with blue cables that was inaugurated in 2005, the first bridge cross the river of the city), Son Tra Mountain (a wooden mountain rising to 700 meters, with communication towers and radar stations on its summits, also known as Monkey Mountain). If look towards the south, there is the Dragon Bridge, one of the most unique bridges in Vietnam. Its dragon is yellow, made of steel and weighs up to 9,000 tons. The head of the dragon is on the other side of the river.
Close to Han River Promenade, visitors can not miss Museum of Cham Sculpture, Han Market and Da Nang Cathedral, three famous attractions of the city. Museum of Cham Sculpture is near the crossroad to the west of the Dragon Bridge. It’s established in 1919 by French archaeologists, becoming the oldest museum of Da Nang. Today, this place houses the largest collection of Champa stone sculptures in the world (up to 2,000 artifacts). Han Market is the oldest and one of the biggest local markets in Da Nang city downtown. It’s named after the Han River. On its ground floor, things to eat are sold and on the upper floor, fashion items can be found. Not far away, the Da Nang Cathedral is the only church constructed in the French colonial period in the city. It’s known as the Pink Church by travelers because of its pastel pink color. By that, it becomes one of the most Instagrammable places in the city.
Near the Han River Bridge, the Da Nang Museum and Dien Hai Citadel are other interesting places to visit. The museum itself is an old building which served as the city hall for French colonists until 1945 and then the current government until becoming a museum. It attracts both locals and visitors who want to have beautiful Instagram pictures. Inside, have the chance to learn about the city’s history, culture, nature and people. A short walk from here, the Citadel is the oldest building (constructed in 1813) to protect the city and the estuary of the Han River. The first war between Vietnamese people and French conquerors occurred. Cannons which the Vietnamese army used during this war are still preserved here. Nearby, Song Han Port is the place where all night cruises embark to travel along the Han River and under famous bridges.
Before and during Tet (Vietnamese lunar new year), the flower market is at Han River promenade, in the front of the Da Nang Museum. It’s definitely the favorite spot to visit and photograph for locals and visitors.
Further down south, near the Dragon Bridge, the APEC Park which has a white metal kite-like structure, is one of the most photographed places in Da Nang. Nearby, Bach Dang Walking Street is a perfect place to continue your self-guided walking tour. In the evening, there are coffee shops, street food stalls, souvenir stores and fun outdoor activities happening here. At the end of this pedestrian road, there are Tran Thi Ly Bridge (a sailing boat-like, cable-stayed bridge with one tall tower) and Nguyen Van Troi Bridge (the only walking bridge spanning Han River).
The best times of the day to visit Han River Promenade are the morning and the evening. The views during these times are beautiful and the temperature is not high as well. We recommend coming here to watch the sunset and the sparkling city after being lit by millions of lamps when it’s dark. The riverscape of Da Nang is really impressive at night. Sure, there are many photo opportunities.

How to Get to Han River Promenade in Da Nang
Within Da Nang city downtown, the Han River Promenade is besides Bach Dang Street in Hai Chau district (west bank of the Han River).
If stay near Dragon Bridge or Tran Thi Ly Bridge or Cham Museum or Han River Bridge, visitors absolutely can walk to Han River Promenade.
From the rest of Da Nang city, visitors can take a car/taxi/minivan/bus/electric buggy car or ride the motorbike to Han River Promenade. The easiest way is finding the quickest road to Bach Dang Street (and then the promenade is right beside). If stay by the beach, it’s needed to go across Thuan Phuoc Bridge or Han River Bridge or Dragon Bridge or Tran Thi Ly Bridge to reach the other side of the Han River. Search the quickest way to go to Han Market and the promenade is close to it.
From Hoi An, the distance to Han River Promenade is some 30 kilometers. The most popular ways to get there are taking a private car/minivan/bus or riding the motorcycle. If go by car/van/bus, visitors can start going along this street from the north or south entrance. However, if go by motorbike, the south entrance is nearer. From Hoi An, the best route is the coastal road (Truong Sa Rd, Vo Nguyen Giap Rd) – Nguyen Van Thoai Street – Tran Thi Ly Bridge – Bach Dang Street. The parking is by any entrance, with a fee of 5,000 VND/bike/time.
