History of Golden Hands Bridge
Golden Hands Bridge is within Ba Na Hills, a former French hill station in the 20th century. Here, the colonists left dozens of old houses/villas where they stayed and relaxed. One of them still survives, and is preserved near the bridge (behind food and drink stalls).
Once 2017, the owner of Sun World Ba Na Hills – Sun Group suggested the TA landscape (a company based in Ho Chi Minh city) to design a pedestrian walkway here, aiming to skip the stairs from the new cable car stations to Le Jardin d’Amour gardens and Linh Ung pagoda. By that, old people, kids, and wheelchair users have an easier visit at Ba Na Hills. Additionally, while on the bridge, visitors will enjoy the breath-taking scenery and clouds in below areas as well as very cool wind. The company also requested to preserve as much as natural forests below the hill (part of a national protection area).
From July 2017 to April 2018, the Golden Hands Bridge was built. The bridge itself is constructed by concrete cement, and its lower part is covered by steel coated with golden painting. The deck of the bridge (for walking) is paved by merawan giaza wood panels, to withstand a high weight from tourists and always-changing weather at Ba Na Hills. The handrails of the bridge are made of stainless steel plated by titanium, making it golden in the sun and a contrast to the hands. To support them, both hands have a steel core, and then covered by premium fiberglass and wire mesh. Additionally, four spider feet-like pillars also join to hold the bridge loop. Below the Golden Bridge, gardens of hydrangea and Norfolk island pine, walkways and other decorations are added (just opened recently to keep visitors safe from landslides on the vertical cliff below the cable car station).
The hands of the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills alone are constructed from October 2017 to April 2018.
Meaning & Significance of Golden Hands Bridge
Two giant hands of the Golden Bridge represent the left and right hands of the Mountain’s god. They rise from the hill and the jungle, so they look rough and mossy. The bridge itself represents a long, golden silk strip which the God wants to give visitors. It’s supported (or held) by God’s hands, and that reminds us about the Lord of the Rings. The bridge’s color is golden, representing something very precious and glorious, and also harmonizes with surroundings (blue sky, white clouds/midst, green forests, colorful flowers).
According to the TA Landscape (company) and two Vietnamese architects – Mr Vu Viet Anh and Ms Pham Thi Ai Thuy, the locational setting of the Golden Bridge amazed and inspired them at first sight. From here, they can catch a fantastic bird’s eye view to below areas (city, rolling hills, mountain ranges, long beaches, winding rivers, etc). They felt and imagined that there were two hands rising out from the mountain and bringing them up to appreciate this incredibly beautiful scenery.
The Heaven Garden near Golden Hands Bridge
The Heaven Garden or Vuon Thien Thai is on the other side of the Golden Hands Bridge (from Marseille Station). If the bridge has two hands, here visitors can find sculpture of two legs, one hand and heads set amid beautiful flower gardens. They look fantastic and fun, hidden away in the midst during the rainy season. Sure, interesting photos can be made. Why are legs here? According to designers, this garden was constructed as part of the Golden Hands Bridge construction project. The legs symbolize the ones of Mountain god and the hands at the Golden Bridge are his hands. Because he is gigantic, nobody can see his head or his body.
In a lower location, visitors will see an old house. It’s abandoned after World War II when the colonial period in Vietnam ended. This house is one of the remains left behind by French people. Sure, it’s proof to show visitors that Ba Na Hills was discovered and used by the colonists in the past as a hill station (mountain resort).
Best Time to Visit Golden Hands Bridge
Main article: Best Time to Visit Golden Bridge, Vietnam
There are two distinct seasons in Da Nang: dry season (February to end of August) and wet season (September to January). Typhoons may hit the area from October to December yearly, coupled with local flooding.
Sitting atop Nui Chua mountain, at an elevation of 1,400m, Ba Na Hills is famous for cool temperature (17-20oC on average) and fresh air. During the best months, from February (esp after Vietnamese new year festival) to August when it’s sunny throughout the day, visitors will experience ‘4 seasons in 1 day’: spring-like weather in the morning, a little hot in the midday (like summer), cool and comfortable temperature in the afternoon (like autumn), and cold at night (like winter). In the rest of the year, it’s often rainy, cloudy and wet.
The best month to visit the Golden Hands Bridge is from February to the end of August. To not see crowds on the day, visitors must be there in the early morning (maybe before 9 am) or late afternoon (maybe after 4 pm). Visitors must check the weather forecast in advance to choose the day of best weather to go.
At night, there are no people at the bridge but it’s too dark to take pictures and see beautiful surrounding areas. It’s possible to book a hotel at Ba Na Hills. In the morning, visitors can get the earliest cable cars to see the bridge.
What to Wear to Golden Hands Bridge?
– Please bring a hat/cap/umbrella, suncream, sun glasses, comfortable shoes and bottles of water if visiting Golden Hands Bridge in the dry season (February to end of August). Umbrella or rain poncho is sold at shops around Ba Na Hills and at the bridge if want to buy one.
– Please bring rain poncho/rain jacket/umbrella, waterproof shoes or sandals if visiting Golden Hands Bridge in the rainy season (September to January). A light jacket (or other garments to make you warm) is needed, especially if staying here until the evening or booking a hotel here.
– Visitors should bring a selfie stick to take photos without so many people. In the dome near the bridge, a couple of shops sell it.
– Vietnamese traditional long dress is highly recommended. Don’t forget a conical hat!

How to Avoid Crowds at Golden Hands Bridge?
Main article: How to Visit Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills to Avoid Crowds
Visitors need to visit Golden Hands Bridge early in the morning or late in the afternoon. For now, this bridge opens at 8 am and the first cable car to it is also operated at 8 am (sometimes earlier if many tourists are there already).
From Hoi An, visitors need to leave the hotel from 6-6:30 am. Entry tickets and transfers should be reserved/booked in advance too. Transfer by car must be private because shared transport service absolutely is not available at this early time. Cable car schedule isn’t fixed, so if get the cable car direct to the bridge (at Hoi An station) on the day you visit, it’s so good. Right after landing, the bridge is within a short walk. Of course, you’re one of the first visitors there. On the other hand, if get the cable car from other stations, no worries, just reach the bridge first (go straight to Louvre station and ride the cable car to the bridge – available until 6 PM). Many people get confused about how they should go, and by that, you can leave them behind on the way to the bridge.
4 PM onwards is also another great time to avoid crowds at the Golden Bridge. Different from morning, if visitors choose to visit at this time, don’t have to wait for cable cars. Just get whichever cable car available when come and then reach up the mountain. Once again, if possible to board from Hoi An station, that’s wonderful. It’s too easy to see the bridge after finishing the ride. However, due to some reasons, visitors will land in the French village instead. Actually, going straight to the bridge (by cable car from Louvre station – available until 6 PM) or discovering the area first is a personal choice. The point is that you just need to ensure that you come to the Golden Hands Bridge after 4 PM.
In the evening, there are only a few people in the Golden Bridge only, but it’s too dark to see everything and photograph. It’s quite cold as well.
