Is Da Nang a Walkable City?
Da Nang is the 4th biggest city in Vietnam. Its city center (around the Dragon Bridge) is walkable. Plus, there are some famous tourist attractions, spacious and lovely riverside promenades, good restaurants and photo spots for visitors.
Best Da Nang Self Guided Walking Tour
Our recommended itinerary for your self-guided walking tour in Da Nang city center is 1,8 kilometers long, starting at the Han Market and ending at the Love Lock Bridge (Cau Tinh Yeu).
The starting point – Han Market (Cho Han) is located on the west bank of the Han River. Its entrance is on Tran Phu Street or Bach Dang Street. To get to this place, visitors can take a taxi, private car/bus or use public transportation. Here, there are lots of stalls selling food, souvenirs, fashion items and more. Around the market, it’s possible to find more shops, restaurants, cafes. See more information & details
Not far away from the Han Market, Da Nang Cathedral is another must see in Da Nang city center. It’s also known as the Pink Church due to its pink exterior, or the Rooster Church because there is a metal rooster at its top. This Catholic church was built from February 1923 to September 1924 by French people. See more information & details
After visiting Han Market and Da Nang Cathedral, going along the Han River Promenade, the most beautiful riverside walk in the city. It’s spacious, decorated by flowers and plants, and provides the best views to the Dragon Bridge and the Han River.
At the end of the Han River Promenade (the west end of the Dragon Bridge), we suggest sightseeing the Museum of Cham Sculpture and APEC Park before walking across the bridge. The museum was established in 1919 by French archaeologists. Today, it houses the largest collection of Champa stone sculptures in Vietnam and the world. This place definitely is a must-go attraction for history and art lovers. Nearby, the park was constructed in 2017, to celebrate the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and then extended. The highlight here is the white metal structure which symbolizes a flying kite. It’s perfect to take a break during the walking tour.
On the other side of the river, you will see the head of the Dragon Bridge. From here, it’s possible to see the staircase down to the riverside promenade below (Tran Hung Dao Street Promenade). After that, the distance to two other famous sights in Da Nang – the Dragon Carp Statue and the Love Lock Bridge, is not long. The statue has a head as dragon and body as carp fish, symbolizing the transformation of the city over the past decades. The bridge is one of the most romantic places in the city, where those who fall in love, come to visit, take photos and attack a padlock to memorize their love.
If starting the tour in the afternoon, besides the Love Bridge and the Dragon Carp Statue, visitors should go to Son Tra Night Market, a must see attraction at night. This is the biggest night market in Da Nang. Here, there are over 150 stalls selling different food options (such as grilled seafood, local specialties) and souvenirs. See more information & details
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at 9:00 pm, watching the Dragon Bridge fire and water show is one of the most popular activities in town. The dragon will breathe fire first and then water, providing a special experience and many photo opportunities. See more information & details
If can walk for a longer distance, we suggest starting the tour from Dien Hai Citadel (the entrance on Tran Phu Street). This citadel was constructed in the 19th century to protect the city, and later, links to the first war between Vietnamese people and French-Spanish people in history. Nowadays, its walls still remain. See more information & details
On the way to Han Market, the Da Nang Museum is also worth visiting. It’s a new museum, introducing history, nature and cultures in Da Nang. By the river, its building served as the former city hall during the French colonial period. After that, the Han River Bridge is the next famous tourist attraction. It’s the first bridge to cross the Han River after the wartime. Today, this is the only surviving swing bridge in Vietnam. On the city’s logo, visitors can find it (alongside with the Marble Mountains).
