Better to Know about Cua Dai Bridge in Hoi An

Cua Dai Bridge is the largest bridge in Hoi An Vietnam. It spans the Thu Bon River, the biggest river in Quang Nam province, near Cua Dai (literally ‘big estuary’) where it flows into the East Sea (Pacific Ocean). Its construction began on September 2009, with a total cost of 3,450 billion Vietnamese dong (VND), as part of the coastal road going from Da Nang International Airport to Chu Lai Airport. On 27th March 2016, this bridge was inaugurated and meanwhile, the ferry in the same place was closed. It’s 1,500 meters long and 25,5 meters wide, carrying a 4-lanes highway with a median strip in the middle and two pedestrian paths on both sides. At the highest point of the bridge, two observation decks are added to allow people to see the beautiful riverscape.

During the dry season, usually from February to September every year, Cua Dai Bridge is one of the best spots to watch sunrise and sunset in Hoi An, thanks to its height and location. In the dawn, early risers can expect to see and photograph a magnificent view from this place. The rivers and the sea are golden, dotted with fishing nets, fishing boats (coming to the fish market), and further, Cham islands (a marine park and biosphere reserve). In the end of the day, sunset lovers absolutely have a tranquil and glorious riverscape, coupled with big fishing nets, boats and distant mountains and hills.

To see the sunrise or sunset at Cua Dai Bridge, visitors should check the sunrise time on Google first and then leave the hotel in Hoi An about 30 minutes before it.

After watching sunrise at Cua Dai Bridge, we recommend going to Duy Hai Fish Market near river estuary, the biggest fish market in Hoi An. From the city, visitors need to go cross the bridge, and at the first crossroad (traffic light here), turn left and go along the cement road. At crossroad with Thanh Nien Road (Google maps location: 15°51’52.5″N 108°23’16.1″E), turn left and go to the end. The market is the meeting place for hundreds of fishing boats, fishermen, sellers and buyers. Visitors will see different fishes (up to time in the year) and they are all fresh. See more information & details

Before watching sunset at Cua Dai Bridge, we recommend going to Cam Thanh Coconut Forest. This forest is very close to the bridge. Here, the most popular activity is basket boat riding through canals. The boat is unique to fishing villages on the central Vietnam coast, and is used in daily life of local residents. It’s small, round, light, painted by different colors, and made by bamboo. If doing just before the sunset, it’s more peaceful in the forest because of less tourists. If possible, let’s try your luck at catching crabs. See more information & details
