Better to Know about An Hoi Island in Hoi An
First of all, An Hoi Island is an approximately-27-hectares island on Thu Bon River, the largest river in the area. Its southern side is bordered by this river and its northern side is bordered by Hoai River, one of its branches. From above, this island has a leaf shape, and is connected with the rest of Hoi An city by three bridges (An Hoi Bridge, Cao Hong Lanh Bridge and 18 Thang 8 Bridge). An Hoi Bridge provides the shortest passage to the Hoi An Ancient Town world heritage area. Furthermore, it’s linked with Cam Kim Island, the other island on the Thu Bon River, by a metal bridge called ‘Cam Kim Bridge’. In the future, there is a new bridge constructed here, and its name will be Kim Bong Bridge, to honor Kim Bong Woodworking Village.
An Hoi Island is named after An Hoi, the most central neighborhood lying on it (although this island has a few neighborhoods). It’s under the administration of Minh An and Cam Pho wards.
During the day, we recommend going to the riverside park along the north bank of An Hoi Island, between Hoai River and Nguyen Phuc Chu Street. It’s known as An Hoi Sculpture Park because it has a collection of stone sculptures carved by artists from many countries in the world. The view from here to the Old Town is very stunning. Visitors will see an exceptionally well-preserved Vietnamese town with tile roofs and yellow walls, and its reflection on the green river, providing many photo opportunities.
The best time to visit An Hoi Island is the evening. During this period, visitors can do these activities here:
– The Hoi An Night Market: the biggest night market in Hoi An which has more than 150 stalls selling souvenirs and street food. All of them stretch along a 300-meters-long pedestrian road. The peak hours are from 7 to 9 pm (earlier and later in the weekend days or holiday season). See more information & details
– Hoi An Lune Center for Performing Arts: this place lies in the middle of Dong Hiep Park (named after Dong Hiep hamlet), at the end of Nguyen Phuc Chu Street. Here, visitors will have the chance to watch world-class live performances in the evening, including Teh Dar (also known as ‘Hoi An bamboo circus show’). It showcases the culture and people who live in the central highlands of Vietnam. See more information & details
– Nguyen Phuc Chu Walking Street: this street is 500 meters long, with restaurants, bars, pubs and spas on one side (south side) and the park/promenade on the other side. At night, it’s one of ‘pedestrian and no-motorized streets’ in Hoi An. Plus the nearby night market and Hoai River, its surrounding area is the most happening in town.
