What to See in Hoang Sa Museum Da Nang?

Hoang Sa Museum (Paracel Islands Museum) is the largest museum in the world about Paracel Islands, an archipelago in the East Sea (also known as South China Sea). It’s established on 8th August 2017 and opened to the public on 28th March 2019.

In the ground of Hoang Sa Museum, there is a wooden fishing boat named ‘DNA 90152’. It’s presented here since 2017. In 2014, it’s attacked by a big boat of the People’s Republic of China while carrying 10 Vietnamese fishermen to catch fishes in Hoang Sa Islands.

Visitors will see many photos and artifacts about all aspects of Hoang Sa Islands (Paracel Islands). The first exhibition is about its geographical location and nature. The second one is about old documents mentioning it before Nguyen dynasty (before 1802), and the next one provides the information about old archives mentioning it from 1802 to 1945 (during the Nguyen dynasty). Historical witnesses of Vietnamese people and government about sovereignty of Hoang Sa Museum after 1974.

Tips to Visit Hoang Sa Museum

– In the dry season, from February to the end of August, visitors should bring sunglasses, sun cream, hat/cap or umbrella, bottles of water, cash.

– In the rainy season, from September to January, visitors should bring rain poncho/jacket, umbrella, sandal or waterproof shoes.

– Visitors must check the weather forecast in advance.

How to Get to Visit Hoang Sa Museum

Hoang Sa Museum is on Hoang Sa Road, Son Tra district, Da Nang city, Vietnam. On the way from the city downtown to famous Lady Buddha/Linh Ung Pagoda, it’s easy to stop here to have a look.

From Da Nang city center or My Khe Beach/My An Beach/Non Nuoc Beach, visitors just need to find the quickest way to see the coastal road Hoang Sa. After that, go towards Son Tra Mountain (or Lady Buddha). Hoang Sa Museum lies on the left hand side, near the crossroad of Phan Ba Phien Street. 

From Hoi An, the distance to Hoang Sa Museum is around 40 kilometers. Visitors can take a taxi, private car/bus, or ride the motorbike. Between Hoi An and this museum, there are Marble Mountains, Non Nuoc Beach, and My Khe Beach. If want to go by motorbike, follow the coastal road Lac Long Quan towards the north. Hoang Sa Museum lies on the left hand side, near the crossroad of Phan Ba Phien Street.

There is no public transport at the moment that connects Da Nang/Hoi An with Hoang Sa Museum.
