Rice fields
Just a short distance from the bustling Ancient Town, the rice fields of Hoi An offer a tranquil, open-air escape where visitors can cycle or walk along winding paths and witness the quintessential Vietnamese rural landscape. Tra Que Vegetable Village
Located on a fertile island, Tra Que Vegetable Village is the biggest fresh vegetable producer in Hoi An. Since the 16th century, local people here have still been using traditional farming techniques to grow vegetables and herbs. See more information & details
Here are activities that you will do in Tra Que Vegetable Village:
– Visit vegetable gardens and learn about different types of herb from our guide
– Meet a real farmer and learn how to grow young vegetables from him/her
– Have an experience of watering the vegetables by a shoulder pole and buckets, have the opportunities to take fun pictures

Water buffalo ride
In Vietnam, water buffalo is primarily used for plowing and harrowing the wet rice paddies and transporting crops across the countryside.
In Hoi An, water buffalo ride is an authentic and gentle eco-tourism experience that allows visitors to sit on the back of a buffalo while touring the tranquil, waterlogged rice paddies and witnessing the traditional farming landscape.
If do not want to ride the water buffalo, you can see it and take pictures with it, or simply skip this activity.
Cam Thanh Coconut Village
Located near the estuary of Thu Bon River, Cam Thanh Coconut Village is known for many thatched roof houses, fishing harbors and a vast water coconut (nipa palm) forest. See more details
Here are things to see/do in Cam Thanh Coconut Village:
– Van Lang Fishing Village: see an authentic central Vietnam’s fishing village with thatched-roof bamboo house and embark the basket boat ride to discover the water coconut forest.
– Small canals inside Bay Mau Coconut Forest, a protected mangrove forest and former hiding place of Vietcong guerillas in the war.
– Watch a live performance of boat spinning by a local man and then have the chance to join him if want to have an adventurous experience.
– Watch how the locals catch fish by traditional net, the way they do every single day in the rivers to earn for living. Have the chance to try your hand if want to be a fisherman.
– Go crab fishing: follow the instruction from locals to catch small brackish crabs which run fast and hide well. Release crabs right before exit the coconut forest because won’t eat.
– Learn how to row the basket boat, a fishing vessel unique to central coast of Vietnam.
Home-cooked lunch at local family restaurant
You will have lunch with Vietnamese dishes like crispy rice pancake (banh xeo), fried spring rolls, braised fish in clay pot, stir-fried morning glory, more. All of them are prepared and served by family members.
Boat trip on Thu Bon River
From the Coconut Village, embark a boat trip back to Hoi An city center on Thu Bon River, the largest river in the region. It offers a peaceful and scenic view of Hoi An’s villages and their surrounding countryside, giving visitors a glimpse into the local way of life along the water.

– Our driver & guide will pick you at your hotel in Da Nang city center (including Hai Chau District, Son Tra District except Nai Hien Dong ward & Tho Quang ward, Ngu Hanh Son District except Hoa Hai ward & Hoa Quy ward) or Hoi An city center.
– In the end of the tour, our driver & guide will drop you off at your hotel.

Joyful, authentic and unforgettable!
This was one of the best experiences of our Vietnam trip. Our guide, Hau, was absolutely outstanding. He spoke with such passion about his countryside and his community, and it was genuinely moving to hear how he shares tourism opportunities fairly among his neighbours so everyone benefits. His warmth, enthusiasm and deep local knowledge made the day feel incredibly personal and meaningful.
Cycling through Hoi A was magical! The contrast between riding through the lively bustle of the town and then drifting quietly through vast green rice paddies was extraordinary. Our first stop was Tra Que Vegetable Village, where we met the wonderful farmer Mr. Lan, whose joy was infectious. Watching him manually water his crops using traditional methods: feeding the fish lettuce so the water naturally fertilises the vegetables, was fascinating. Getting hands-on in the garden made us feel truly connected to local life.
The water buffalo ride was enormous fun and something we’ll never forget. From there, we headed to Cam Thanh Coconut Village, where we drank fresh coconut water straight from the fruit and took a bamboo basket boat ride through the coconut forest. Catching crabs was brilliant fun, and our charismatic boat captain singing as we drifted down the river made the whole experience joyful and memorable.
Lunch was a delicious and plentiful six-course home-cooked meal, far more than we expected and absolutely delicious; real highlight of the day. The relaxed boat ride back to the city was the perfect way to end such a full, immersive experience.
This tour is the perfect blend of culture, nature, fun and genuine human connection. If you want to truly understand local life in Hoi An, rather than just see it, this is an absolute must-do experience. We loved every second!
