Things to Do in An Bang Beach During the Day

Going swimming in An Bang Beach

Both locals and tourists love going swimming in An Bang Beach. This beach has everything that swimmers need: the water is clean, unpolluted, not deep and the waves are gentle or strong enough. In many days, it’s possible to walk for a long distance in the sea. To make sure that swimmers are safe, the local government uses the nets and some red flags to surround the swimmable body of water (please don’t go over this ground). On the beach, the rescue team is attentive and always ready to help in dangerous situations. Because of all of those reasons, people will feel safe here, especially those who come with kids. Parents can pay for locals on the beach to hire a life jacket or a round float to use in the water. Around the beach’s entrance, there’re a couple of stores selling swimwear for all ages, glasses, and sun cream. After going swimming, visitors can go to the restaurant they paid for food (not drinks) to use the washroom for free. If don’t eat anywhere, go to spots behind seaside restaurants, and pay for fresh water showering (about 5-10,000 VND/person).

When coming to the beach and don’t see any local people in the water, please don’t go swimming. They know the beach and the weather well.

Those who want to sunbathe in An Bang Beach have lots of space. On this beach, there are many sun beds and loungers to hire (if eat food at the owner’s restaurant, it will be a free service) and then relax in the sun. Not far away, visitors can skip the loungers and use their own towel to lie down. If looking for somewhere without many people, should go to the northern/southern tip of the main swimming spot. Over there, restaurants and bars are still seen, and to get food or drink.

Sightseeing & Taking Photo

An Bang Beach is part of one of the most beautiful coastlines in Vietnam. Here, visitors will see a non-stop and clean stretch of white sand by the blue sea. On the left hand side, there are Son Tra Mountain or Monkey Mountain (rising up to a height of 700 meters), high-rise buildings by My Khe Beach and the Marble Mountains (a group of five rocky hills), two famous mountains in Da Nang. On the right hand side, there are islands of Cham Islands, a national marine park and Unesco world biosphere reserve that is well known for its stunning diving experience. In the back, it’s possible to see lots of coconut trees and sea pines as well as thatched-roof venues under their shade. No matter dry or rainy season, this beach is still great to visit and enjoy beautiful natural scenery and eat or drink with a view. Why not stroll along it barefoot?

Water Sports in An Bang Beach

During sunny months, particularly from February to September, visitors can find these water sports to participate in An Bang Beach:

– jet skiing: from 700,000 to 1,200,000 VND for 15 to 30 minutes (2 persons maximum)

– parasailing: 600,000 VND for 1 person and 800,000 VND for 2 persons each round

– surfing: from 500,000 to 900,000 VND for 15 to 30 minutes, for 2 persons maximum

– standup paddle boarding: from 500,000 to 900,000 VND for 15 to 30 minutes, for 2 persons maximum

– banana boat: 1,000,000 VND for 10 mins for 5 persons maximum

If want to do water sports in Hoi An, An Bang Beach is the only choice. During the rainy season (from October to end of January), it rains a lot and by that, no water sports are available.

Watch Sunrise in An Bang Beach

An Bang Beach is a good spot to watch and photograph sunrise or sunset in Hoi An. The sunrise is better somehow because the beach looks to the East. If possible, visitors should book an accommodation in the village behind this beach (An Bang village). From the city centre of Hoi An, the distance won’t be too long, so just need to wake up earlier a little bit (can cycle, ride the motorbike or take a taxi to get there). While the sun is rising, there are many locals on the beach to cool down, sleep, do exercise, play sports, go swimming, do yoga or chat with friends. Natural scenery during the sunrise in An Bang Beach is mind-blowing, making your efforts worth it and your time here not wasty.

An Bang Beach Food & Music Festival

This annual beach festival takes place in the middle of the dry season in Hoi An (May/June/July) during some days. Everyone can attend for free. Here, there is an outdoor stage where local and foreign artists will perform, lots of chairs to have a seat for drinking, eating and watching them as well as stalls selling dishes from different cuisines (Asian, western, fusion) and handmade souvenirs. The best time to come and socialize is around sunset.

Things to Do in An Bang Beach at Night

After sunset, the An Bang Beach area becomes a peaceful place where visitors can dine out and chill without crowds of tourists (that makes it different from the Old Town). The beach itself is quite empty and free from noise and events. Along the beachfront, there are many restaurants serving seafood, alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. Nice decoration, cozy atmosphere, cool and fresh breeze blowing from the sea are added values. About the food and drink, please see more details below.

Around An Bang village, visitors can find a couple of spas run by local families. Foot massage, body massage, Thai massage, hot stone massage,…will be available. Because the area is not too touristy or busy, the price is affordable (if compared to the Old Town). We recommend walking to your favourite spa to make a reservation in advance, in order to have the best preparation and service then.

An Bang Beach area is home to some local late night bars to go too. There, it’s possible to meet locals, expats and foreigners to make friends as well as get different beverage options from the bartender.

Best Time to Visit An Bang Beach

The best time to visit An Bang Beach in the year is the dry season, from February to the end of August. In this period, the weather is beautiful, with lots of sun and no rain. For that reason, it’s a perfect time to sightsee, sunbathe, go swimming, take pictures, and play water sports.

The worst time of the year to visit An Bang Beach is the rainy season, from September to January. The weather in these months is mostly rainy and cloudy, so it’s not really great to head over to the beach. Between October and December/January, typhoons may hit the area, causing very strong winds and waves as well as heavy rains and floods.

In December and January, generally it often rains. The heaviest rain will be in late December and early January (around Christmas, New year holidays). In late January, visitors can expect dry or sunny days to visit An Bang Beach. Check the weather forecast to choose the best days or hours!

What & Where to Eat in An Bang Beach

Right on the sands, local vendors sell snacks and some food for visitors who come to cool down or go swimming. The customers will sit together on a mat. Food options are clam porridge, grilled pork skewers, grilled fish, rice crackers, clear dumplings, banh canh (thich noodles), fresh fruits, boiled eggs,… The price isn’t high. Around the entrance of An Bang Beach, there are some street food vendors too (they sell grilled rice papers, fried skewers,…). You can bring your own food to the beach and eat, but to use the mat, it’s needed to pay or buy something.

One of favourite restaurants for locals is ‘Chao ngheu Co Gio’ where they can eat delicious clam porridge. It opens from 3 PM onwards.

If looking for a restaurant, visitors can find many places around An Bang Beach area. Seaside venues often have everything, from Vietnamese food, western food, seafood, to non-alcohol and alcohol drinks. It’s always breezy there during the day and peaceful at night when crowds of swimmers leave the beach. Their colorful décor supports really good pictures also. On the weekend evenings, live music and special events will be available, with participation of international artists. For that reason, besides the Old town, lots of people come here to unwind and spend the night.

About seafood, restaurants along the beachfront have the most diverse seafood choices. There, visitors will see living shrimps, crabs, lobsters, fishes, shells,… in aquariums, and then can pick for their own dishes. Remember to ask the price in advance and have a request to suit your personal favourite way of cooking to the kitchen. The best time to eat seafood in An Bang Beach is the dry season (from March to August). In this period, local fishermen can go to the sea and catch fishes. In the wet season, it’s impossible to set sail and restaurants will need to buy seafood from other regions where the weather is better. Therefore, seafood in the remaining months of the year is not 100% fresh.

If you’re a vegetarian/vegan, it’s possible to see pure vegetarian restaurants (such as the Fisherman) or vegetarian food options on the menu.

Comparing An Bang Beach with Other Beaches

An Bang Beach vs Cua Dai Beach

An Bang Beach and Cua Dai Beach are two famous beaches in Hoi An Vietnam. Cua Dai Beach is 3 kilometers to the south. It’s the last beach on the unbroken coastline from Son Tra Mountain to the mouth of Thu Bon River.

At the present, An Bang Beach is better to go swimming than Cua Dai Beach because Cua Dai Beach was seriously damaged by erosion many years ago. The project to rebuild this beach is still on-going. An Bang Beach is safer and nicer to visit if traveling with kids. If want to see natural scenery or relax under the coconut trees, both of the beaches are similar. Cua Dai Beach is less busy than An Bang Beach throughout the year, therefore for those who love places without big crowds, it’s a nice choice.

An Bang Beach vs My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach is in Da Nang city, 30 mins drive from An Bang Beach (to the north). It’s definitely the best public beach in Da Nang, and one of tourist’s favourite beaches in Vietnam. This is a lengthy and non-stop strip of white fine sand, with crystal clear sea water in one side and lush coconut palms in the other side. Natural scenery here is enhanced by mountains and islands in the front. Read more information & details

To be honest, visitors can choose An Bang Beach or My Khe Beach or both to add in the travel itinerary. Both are open, long, free to visit, with fine sands, clean and not-deep water, sun beds/loungers for rent, restaurants, bars, and water activities. There’re many hotels and resorts constructed along them too. For that reasons, we suggest that just select the nearest one to where visitors stay. Meaning that, if stay in Da Nang, let’s go to My Khe Beach and if stay in Hoi An, An Bang is the best choice.

During the best months (sunny months), water activities may be more diverse at My Khe Beach compared to An Bang Beach. In several days, there’re no water activities available in An Bang Beach.

In addition, if thinking about which one is better to stay, we outlines some differences between My Khe Beach and An Bang Beach to make you easier decide:

– My Khe Beach area has high-rise hotels in which visitors can book a room with a view to the beach, blue ocean, mountains, islands, sunrise and catch breezes. It’s possible only in An Bang Beach area when staying in seaside resorts. So, the range of price for an accommodation in My Khe Beach is wider than An Bang Beach.

– An Bang Beach area has a fishing village vibe, so it’s more cozy and relaxing. From daytime to nighttime, it’s totally quiet here.

How to Get to An Bang Beach in Hoi An

An Bang Beach is in Cam An ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, Vietnam. It lies at the end of Hai Ba Trung street and only 3km away from the Hoi An Ancient Town

There is no public transportation from Hoi An city centre to An Bang Beach, therefore visitors will need to walk or use private vehicles.

Many travelers love walking to An Bang Beach from Hoi An centre/downtown/old town because the distance isn’t too long. It’s very easy to get there! Visitors just need to go along Hai Ba Trung St until its end. It’s flat and runs through a lovely piece of Hoi An’s countryside.

Cycling to An Bang Beach is also convenient and easy. If there is no free bicycle to use or hire in the hotel, visitors can hire one bike at a cheap price, in shops on main streets. One day rental is about 50,000 VND. Again, the quickest road to get to An Bang Beach from Hoi An centre/downtown/old town is Hai Ba Trung street. This road has one separate lane for cycling and walking on each side. En route, it’s possible to see rice fields, farmers, water buffalos, flocks of birds, and rivers. Parking at the entrance of An Bang Beach, with a price of 5,000 VND/bicycle.

If want to reach the beach faster, let’s use a motorbike/scooter. One day rental for now is from 100,000 to 200,000 VND, depending on the type of bike. Parking lots are around the main entrance (locals will raise hands to say hi and tell people to park in their own place) and the fee is 5,000-10,000 VND.

Getting to An Bang Beach by taxi/private car/electric bus is also convenient. In Hoi An downtown/centre/old town, visitors just need to catch one of them to go. The fare is less than 120,000 VND/way. To go somewhere after the beach, just return to the beach’s entrance (Hai Ba Trung street) and there are many taxi cars there.

From Da Nang, the distance to An Bang Beach is from 20km to 40km. This beach is beside the coastal road (Hoang Sa/Vo Nguyen Giap/Truong Sa/Lac Long Quan street), so visitors should see famous attractions along it and visit An Bang Beach on the way to Hoi An Ancient Town.
