What to Expect in Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass?
Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass was inaugurated on 1st July 2023, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. Its construction began on 15th January 2023, with an aim to provide a safe passage for hotel guests and visitors from Mikazuki Resort & Water Park to the beach (and vice versa). In the area, Japanese Bridge in Hoi An is considered to be the first ever symbol for the relationship of two countries.
On the floor of the spiral parts of Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass, there are symbols of two squares overlapping, symbolizing the close-knit relationship/friendship between Vietnam and Japan.
From the top of Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass, if looking eastwards, visitors will see a peaceful white-sandy coastline. The beach on one side of the bridge is Xuan Thieu Beach or Red Beach (by the Americans). It lies between blue-water Da Nang Bay and the coastal highway Nguyen Tat Thanh. In the early morning every summer, the sunrise observed from here is just mind blowing and spectacular. There are many local people going jogging or running on the pavement below.
If looking northwards, from the top of Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass, it’s possible to see a chain of mountains. It’s a spur of the Annamite Range (Truong Son Mountains) jutting into the ocean where the Hai Van Pass transverses. During the rainy season, these mountains are crowned by white clouds. That’s why French people named the whole range ‘Bach Ma’ which means ‘white horse’.
Towards the south (or the city centre), visitors can see Nguyen Tat Thanh Rd from above. This is a 6-lanes highway with a flower median strip in the middle. It’s one of longest roads in Da Nang (over 11 kilometers) which allows vehicles to go from the northwest areas to the city downtown and vice versa. On its left side, the beach is peaceful, free from any constructions, and bounded by unpolluted, calm seawater.
In the evening, Mikazuki Pedestrian Overpass becomes lightful and colorful due to modern hue-changing lamps. For that reason, many young people come here to see and take photos as well as eat fried fish ball skewers or grilled rice paper.
