What to Expect in Cam Ne Mat Village?
Cam Ne Mat Village is a Vietnamese traditional craft village in the outskirts of Da Nang Vietnam. It’s established in the 15th century and its long-standing mat making by sedge was started by some families moving from Thanh Hoa (a province in north-central Vietnam).
In the heart of Cam Ne Mat Village, there is the nearly-600-year communal house (called dinh lang) where several clans have been worshipping their ancestors and village’s founders. In 2023, this building was recognized as a cultural heritage. During sedge season, mat weavers sun dry the grasses on its yard, attracting many photographers who want to hunt colorful pictures and real local life.
Today, Cam Ne Mat Village is a calm oasis as it’s surrounded by rice fields at all sides. In some local tours, visitors cycle through these paddy fields and then visit homes of local artisans to learn how to make a mat by traditional skills and materials. In Hoi An, it’s possible to find a similar experience in Cam Kim Island, the green island to the south of Hoi An’s Old Town.

How to Get to Cam Ne Mat Village
Cam Ne Mat Village is located in Hoa Tien commune, Da Nang city (formerly Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang). It’s not far from Tuy Loan Rice Paper Village.
From Da Nang city center, the distance to Cam Ne Mat Village is 10-15km. Visitors can take a taxi, hire a private car, or ride the motorbike to get there. If like going by bike, find the quickest way to see Highway QL1A and then go southwards to crossroad of DT605 Road. Turn into this road, turn right, go under the railway bridge and go straight to see the village.
From Hoi An, the distance to Cam Ne Mat Village is 22-25km. Visitors can take a taxi, hire a private car, or ride the motorbike to get there. If like going by bike, find the quickest way to see Highway QL1A and then go northwards to crossroad of DT605 Road. Turn into this road, turn right, go under the railway bridge and go straight to see the village.
Cam Ne Mat Village is an interesting stop on the way from Da Nang city to My Son Sanctuary (UNESCO world heritage site).
