The best time to visit the Hai Van Pass in Vietnam is during the dry season, running from March to August.

What to Expect at Lang Co Bay Viewpoint?
The Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is the best spots to enjoy striking nature and take photos on Northern side of Hai Van Pass.
From this view points, visitors will see:
– Lang Co town or fishing village (front): that sits on a long peninsula between the lagoon and the sea.
– Lang Co Beach (front):
– Lap An Lagoon (front):
– The East Vietnam Sea or Pacific Ocean (right)
– Hai Van Pass Mountain Range (left) or Bach Ma Mountain Range
– A massive concrete bridges going from the town to the mountains (for Hai Van Tunnels).
– The main tidal channel of Lap An Lagoon (where its water flows into the ocean). This is also waterway for local fishermen.
– The track of the railway through Hai Van Pass (between Lang Co and Da Nang, a part of Vietnam north-south railway). During the day, there are 4 times the heritage train running down .
The best place to see the views and take amazing photos is not on the side of the pass route. It’s on the top of the observation tower near it (Google maps location: 16°13’36.0″N 108°05’37.2″E). From a higher location, visitors can capture the exact the iconic picture of Lang Co as professional photographers took.
Not far away from the view point, can find a few simple coffee shops where visitors can take a break during the scenic drive on Hai Van Pass.
In the iconic 2008 Top Gear Vietnam Special (TV show), at the Lang Co Bay viewpoint at the base of the Hai Van Pass, Jeremy Clarkson (the host) reflects on the scenery as a metaphor for Vietnam, citing the combination of mountains, coastline, new engineering, and traditional fishing. He concludes that the experience and setting make it a fabulous country.
How to Get to Lang Co Bay Viewpoint on Hai Van Pass

The Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is on the Hai Van Pass road (part of former QL1A Highway) but on the Hue side. If start exploring the pass from Lang Co or Hue, this spot is just in the beginning of the pass route. If enter the pass from Da Nang or Hoi An on the other side, it will be the last photo/sightseeing stop.
On Google maps, location of the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is 16°13’31.1″N 108°05’34.7″E, near the place where the railway crosses the pass route (that’s why all vehicles must stop here several times a day).

The most popular ways to go to the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is by car and by motorbike. From Hue, this viewpoint is often one of sightseeing/photo spots on the way to next destinations – Da Nang and Hoi An, and vice versa.
From Lang Co – the nearest tourist town, the distance to the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is 2-5 kilometers.
+ Going by car: contact a local driver, hotel or travel agency to take a private car. Possible to go further the pass such as Da Nang, Marble Mountains, Hoi An, Ba Na Hills, Golden Bridge,…
+ Going by motorbike: find the quickest way to reach the crossroad of Nguyen Van and Lac Long Quan (Google maps location: 16°13’42.8″N 108°04’59.3″E). Go southwards, follow the Hai Van Pass route until crosses the railway. The Lang Co Bay Viewpoint lies on the left hand side. After that, visitors can choose to ride up to the highest point (Hai Van Gate) or slide down the Da Nang side. If need to go back to Lang Co, discover the pass again or use the transit service at Hai Van Tunnels.
From Hue city center, the distance to the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is around 80 km. If go by car, the travel time is approximately 1.5 hours. Before stop here, don’t miss Lap An Lagoon or/and Lang Co Beach for sightseeing, taking a break, having a coffee,… If like going by motorbike, rent a motorbike when you all necessary licenses and skills OR book an easy rider (local motorbike rider).
From Da Nang, the distance to the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is around 40 km. If go by car, the travel time is 1-2 hours, depending on the weather, traffic, and how much time visitors spend at each stop along the pass route. From Hoi An, the distance to the Lang Co Bay Viewpoint is around 70 km.
