This half-day walking tour shows you highlights of Hoi An’s Old Town, a Unesco world heritage site. From the 15th to 19th centuries, it played its role as an international trading port where locals and foreign merchants traded different goods. Today, it’s the best preserved traditional Asian town. Here, visitors will see Japanese Covered Bridge, Chinese assembly halls, museums and old wooden houses lining along narrow roads and small alleys. Hoi An is also widely known for lanterns and yellow buildings. Besides sightseeing and learning about the history, you will watch traditional art performances and visit local handicraft workshops.

Hainan Assembly Hall, Minh Huong Communal House, Quan Cong Temple (pass by)

Have a glimpse at three important buildings for Chinese communities in Hoi An (will not go inside): Hainan Assembly Hall, Minh Huong Communal House and Quan Cong Temple (Ong Pagoda). Take photos at their main entrance and learn about them from local guide.

Hoi An Central Market

Visit the oldest and biggest market in Hoi An. Here, people sell a huge variety of local products, including fresh vegetables, tropical fruits, fishes, seafood, poultries, spices, noodles, household items, lanterns,… Walk through the food hall where local women make and sell different local food and food specialties. In the front of the market, there is a ancient well that is still in use and covered by a tile pavilion. See more details

Fujian Assembly Hall

Explore the longest cave in the area. During the war, it served as the hiding place and field hospital for communist guerillas. While visiting, you will have the chance to learn about local Buddhist culture (the hell, the heaven, the death, karma, etc). See more details

Trung Hoa Assembly Hall (pass by)

Go pass by Trung Hoa Assembly Hall, the most important place for all Chinese communities in Hoi An. Here, Thien Hau Goddess (Goddess of Sea) is worshipped. See more details

Museum of Folklore

Visit the best museum in Hoi An. It’s originally an old and well-preserved wooden shophouse before being a museum. The exhibitions provide the information about folk tangible and intangible cultural heritages of the area, such as Bai Choi (a traditional game and singing that was honored to be world’s intangible cultural heritage by Unesco). See more details

Hoi An Traditional Art Performance House

Visit the theatre at 66 Bach Dang Street to have a seat, relax and watch traditional art performances from local artists. Before the show begins, you will receive a card to join the folk game named ‘Bai Choi’ (the artist will tell you the rules). If win, you have a pretty lantern as a gift. See more details

Tan Ky Old House

Visit a group of many lovely gardens and sculptures that are designed by different styles across Europe. Besides flowers, visitors will see exciting performances during the day. See more details

Japanese Covered Bridge - Symbol of Hoi An

Visit the symbol of Hoi An. Spanning a small river, it’s constructed in the 17th century by Japanese people and then restored by Chinese people. Behind the bridge’s part, there is a temple where locals have worshipped Xuanwu (a Chinese general and Taoist god). One of its names is Lai Vien Kieu which means ‘the bridge that receives the guests from afar’, showing the hospitality of the locals to the foreigners. This historical and religious site is more special than any other bridges in Vietnam. See more details

Traditional Handicraft Workshop

Meet a local women wearing a Vietnamese traditional dress (ao dai) and listen to her explanation about long-standing handicrafts in Hoi An (including silk making, lantern making, embroidery, garment making, so on).

What to bring/wear

Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes, hat/cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain poncho/jacket (from October to January), cash. To visit the temples, please wear respectively. In other words, make sure that the pants cover the upper knees and the shirt covers the navel, shoulders, armpits. See more details
