History of Da Nang Port (Tien Sa Port)
The Da Nang Port or Tien Sa Port is in an ideal location. It lies in Da Nang bay, at the western tip of Son Tra Peninsula/Monkey Mountain, and near the estuary of Han River.
In Vietnamese, Tien Sa means ‘descending fairy lady’, and it originates from a legend. In which, the land where this port is situated, has a beautiful landscape between mountains and sea. One day, fairy ladies descend from heaven, and visit a beach on it. Here, they enjoy going swimming together, and before that, they ‘remove’ their wings. Later, a lady among them meets and then falls in love with a gentle man. To keep her on the earth forever, he hides her wings and after that, they live happily together for the rest of the life. The beach where they first see, is named ‘Tien Sa Beach’. Nearby places are also named the same, such as Tien Sa Peninsula (Son Tra Peninsula) and Tien Sa Port. In addition, the legend about Ban Co Peak where two fairy men play chess together, is linked with Tien Sa legend.
Within Vietnam, Da Nang Port is the busiest seaport in the central region, and the third largest port system, after Saigon Port in Ho Chi Minh city and Hai Phong’s Port.
Da Nang Port is the eastern end of the East-West Economic Corridor, an economic development program aiming to promote development and integration of 4 countries in the South East: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam (from west to east). This corridor connects the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean by a 1,450-kilometers-long road. In Vietnam, it goes through Quang Tri province, Hue and Da Nang cities.
Today, the Da Nang Cruise Port is the main seaport serving tourists in the area.
Better to Know about Da Nang Cruise Port Terminal
The terminal of Da Nang Cruise Port where the cruises dock, is about 500 meters from the port’s entrance (at the end of Yet Kieu Road). If book a tour in which the local guide and driver do not pick up at the terminal, visitors will need to walk to the port’s entrance. In common, the price of tours with pick up at the port’s entrance is cheaper than tours with in-port pick up service.
If book a private car with a driver, visitors can tell him/her to meet up at the entrance of Tien Sa Resort (close to the port’s entrance). It’s less confusing when both you and him/her find each other in the crowds
