Cam Kim Iron Bridge
Ride through this metal bridge which crosses Thu Bon River, the largest river in the area, to reach Cam Kim Island from Hoi An city. Built in 2016, this is a local commuter bridge used by motorbikes, bicycles, and pedestrians. While moving on it, visitors will feel a bit nervous and have a unusual experience.
Rice fields
Vietnam is the second largest rice producer in the world. Hoi An, particularly Cam Kim Island, lies within the fertile delta of Thu Bon River, therefore visitors can see rice fields. Of course, have a stop to take some photos and learn about Vietnamese rice growing culture. See more details about Hoi An’s rice fields
Kim Bong Carpentry Village
After riding through rural villages, visitors will visit Kim Bong Carpentry Village, one of the living craft villages in Hoi An. On the bank of the Thu Bon River, local people here have kept the tradition of boat building and woodcarving for around 500 years. Our guide will show you around the village to watch carpenters at work and galleries of the most skilled artisans to see the sophisticated things they made. Near the waterside, watch local artisans working at a shipyard. See more details
In this village, you will have the chance to try hand at wood carving in a local workshop.
Rice paper making & try 'banh dap' (smashing rice papers)
Visit a local family whose members have made rice papers and rice noodles for some decades. One of them will show you the process to make the rice paper by rice milk and then you have the chance to try your hand at making your own rice papers. After that, the artisan shows the way to make the noodles from fresh rice papers and how to make banh dap (‘smashing rice papers’), a specialty food in Hoi An. Try the cake as how the locals do then. See more details
Rice rice and noodles making is one of main local industries in Cam Kim Island.
Mat weaving
Continue riding through rural villages and visit a local family making traditional sedge mats. This craft is also one of the main local industries in Cam Kim Island, Hoi An. Our guide will help you to communicate with artisans and interact with them to know better their life. Later, you have the chance to try your hand at making the mats by colorful sedges. See more details
Boat trip back to Hoi An
After return Kim Bong Carpentry Village, take a boat trip across Thu Bon River to reach the city center of Hoi An. This is the way how local residents on Cam Kim Island do every single day to see the market or go to the school, before modern bridges are constructed.
